Morrison Hails Bluebirds’ Survival Spirit

Sean Morrison claims the “togetherness” in the Cardiff squad could see them secure Premier League survival this season.

The Bluebirds captain grabbed his first goal in almost 12 months on Tuesday as he headed in the Bluebirds’ second in a 2-0 win against Brighton at the Amex Stadium.

The result moved Neil Warnock’s side to within two points of the Seagulls in the battle to avoid joining Huddersfield and Fulham in the Championship next season.

The odds are still stacked against Cardiff given that their closest rivals have more points, a significantly superior goal difference and a game in hand on them.

The fact City travel to face title-chasing Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, while Brighton go to Wolves 24 hours earlier, does not bode well.

But Morrison is adamant that the spirit which the Cardiff squad have built up over the course of this season could work in their favour. He said: “We’ve had a couple of decisions go against us recently and the lads have shown strong character to bounce back.

It shows the togetherness of the group and how close we are. “There is a lot of work to do – we are still third-bottom, but we have given ourselves a chance.

We’re two points behind Brighton now, and they have some tough games coming up. “All the odds are against us – they have been all year – but we have never lost that belief and we keep giving ourselves a shot at staying up.

I know we won’t give up until after the final whistle on the last day at Manchester United – hopefully we will have done enough and we are still in the Premier League.”
