Lyon are being linked with a summer move to replace manager Bruno Genesio with former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho.
Genesio’s deal expires at the end of the season with Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas non-committal over his future, despite leading the French side into the last-16 of the Champions League.
The current boss has done nothing to play down the speculation about the former Los Blancos boss taking over by saying he would be ‘honoured’ if Mourinho was his successor. “We can only respect Mourinho, he told reporters.
“He’s a coach who has won everywhere he’s been. “He is maybe not the one I identify with personality wise, but I respect him a lot regarding his records and achievements in football.
He’s won everything. “Everywhere he’s been he’s won a trophy. He’s won Champions Leagues.
Obviously, he’s a great coach, so, if he succeeds me it would be an honour.” Lyon are currently third in the Ligue 1 standings, four points behind second-place Lille and 27 behind runaway leaders Paris Saint-Germain.Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
