Murray Makes History At Flushing Meadows

Britain’s Jamie Murray won a US Open title for the fourth year in a row after winning the mixed doubles with Bethanie Mattek-Sands. The 33-year-old and his American team-mate won in straight sets as they defended their title thanks to a 6-2 6-3 win over top seeds Chan Hao-ching and Michael Venus.

Murray and Mattek-Sands broke twice in the first set before then holding their nerve in a tense second set. Mattek-Sanks hit the winner with a powerful backhand, but the victory was a big one for her Scottish partner. Murray made history by becoming the first man in the Open Era to win three successive mixed titles at Flushing Meadows.

After lifting his seventh Grand Slam trophy, Murray told reporters: “We played amazing, the whole two weeks. We’ve had so much fun on the court. I’m really, really, really happy to win again.” Murray has also won the mixed doubles alongside Swiss great Martina Hingis, while also winning the men’s title with Brazilian partner Bruno Soares.
