Nantes Coach Gourcuff Happy ‘Simon’s Confidence Is Back’ After Netting 1st Goal Of Season

Nantes head coach, Christian Gourcuff is seriously counting on Moses Simon ahead of their Ligue 1 clash with Losc Lille which takes place at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy tonight (Friday).

Gourcuff said during his pre-match press conference on Thursday afternoon that he believes Simon’s confidence is back after netting against Saint-Ētienne last time out.

Simon opened his goal account for Nantes in the 2020/21 Ligue 1 season lașt Sunday as his side played out a 2-2 draw with Saint-Etienne, his fourth league game this term.

And ahead of this weekend’s French top-flight encounter against Lille, Gourcuff is seriously relying on the Nigeria international to continue his goal-scoring form.

“This is obviously important. I take the example of Moses Simon. After Monaco, we regretted his performance when we needed him,” the French tactician said on Thursday,” Gourcuff remarked during the news conference.

“And we saw against Saint-Etienne, a first half where he was disturbed. I knew it was not a physical problem but a confidence problem.

“I think the fact that he scored that goal, it did him a lot of good. After his achievement, he had a lot more influence in the game. A player is complex because confidence is very fragile,” Gourcuff concluded.

Simon scored five goals in 26 league games for Nantes last term.
