Napoli Boss Spalletti Hails ‘Complete Package’ Osimhen After Win Vs Roma

Napoli manager, Luciano Spalletti labelled Victor Osimhen a “complete package” after the forward scored a stunning goal in Sunday night’s 2-1 win against Roma.

Osimhen put the Partenopei ahead in the first half of the encounter at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

The Nigeria international controlled Kvicha Kvaratskhelia’s cross with his chest, then juggled it on his right thigh before smashing in the right-foot volley.

The goal was perhaps the best of his Napoli career and Spalletti was exhilarated by it too.

“There is everything in that goal, technical quality, character to juggle the ball between two defenders, then he hit this rocket into the net, as he really has got a cannon for a foot,” Spalletti told DAZN.

“He has physical strength, accepts the challenge, tracks back to help, is good in the air. He is the complete package.”

Despite that goal and performance, Spalletti still substituted Osimhen when Napoli had just conceded the equaliser from El Shaarawy.

“You can’t always play the same guys and forget what you saw during the week from the others. We have to take into account what everyone does, how eager they all are to show what they can do. Otherwise, we are not complete coaches.

“At the start of the season when Osimhen was injured, Raspadori and Simeone allowed us to win the Champions League group, so it is not fair to just discard them now.”

Osimhen has now scored 14 goals in 16 league appearances for the league leaders this season.

  • Fantastic technique by Osimhen. Controlling the ball twice excellently, first with his chest and then with his knee – both military type precision – Osimhen would then blast the back of the net with imagery that is not for that is not the faint-hearted to watch.

My prayer that, for Nigeria, Osimhen shows better decision making and not go for the spectacular or unorthodox.

It is very easy to get carried away with the goal he scored against Roma yesterday but the truth is that Osimhen kept it unbelievably simple. With the ball coming at speed, he new he had to calm the ball, set himself up and shoot with the ball well positioned for maximum effect and impact. It was masterclass in staying cool, calm and collected under intense pressure.

For Nigeria, more of such composure is needed rather than the exuberant and high-on-caffeine Osimhen we saw against Ghana across 180 minutes.

Osimhen made Napoli fans happy yesterday, tomorrow we Super Eagles fans pray he makes us very happy indeed.

  • Napoli fans can start celebrating the scuddeto already…… Osimhen is world class and he deserves all the hype and expectations……I said it before that osimhen excels under pressure and hype…… Infact he loves it like crazy……he like glamour and heated atmosphere…… Osimhen has a very energetic beast inside him and that beast comes alive when the atmosphere is tensed……With osimhen available till the end of the season I don’t see any other club taking the scuddeto from Napoli or any player taking the highest goal scorer award from him(Lookman will give him a run for his money though).

That lad Simeoni no 18 apparently the match winner,is as good as Osimhen.
I feel sorry for the lad he’s too good to sit on the bench.

      • Someone is a very talented striker with excellent finishing technique that matches Osimhen’s finishing technique……But osimhen all round game is miles ahead of someone’s……Hold up play…..Runs in behind defense….. Ariel ability both defensive and offensive….. Dribbling and link up play……Ball control and balance…..Pace and acceleration….All these qualities make up the modern day striker and osimhen has all while someone is lacking in most of this qualities.

I get that Simeone has his own qualities as well.
He may not have the power acceleration and athleticism of Osimhen but he’s good with the ball to his feet.He does his business with flair,he uses his head more than power.
When Osimhen was out injured Napoli didn’t miss him all because they have a striker in Simeoni who does the business as good as the first choice.
I’m not judging who between the two is better but in my opinion both of them gets the job done.

      • @Greenturf he is not as good as Osimhen, He is good infact he presence there will always bring out the best in Osimhen, Osimhen beats him in Athletisim, Pace, Heading prowess and Shot power as well as Strenghth. you see I always say you do not buy generational talent in a black market. The X fator is what Osimhen has. Simeone is good but Osimhen is a level or 2 above him. We are talking about a game changer. Don’t forget Osimhen got injured it was a battle with the two in the begining of the season, Osimhen Won took his place back then gets injured and Simone came on did well when Osimhen came back he did not just walk back in he had to fight for his place again and Regained it immediatley, this is a Player of the same ilk as Haaland Mbappe and Co you don’t find them every generation. Osimhen is above Simoene. I keep saying this XFACTOR PLAYER I have been saying this for years on this Platform

That lad Simeoni is heading towards greater things.
He is very intelligent a fantastic and clever centre forward.
When he eventually has the opportunity of playing first choice in Napoli or elsewhere he will shoot to the top of his career as one of the best in the business.
Every player has qualities they are known for,you don’t have to play with power to be the best.
Iheanacho is facing the same predicament in Leicester with Vardys athleticism and acceleration getting him picked ahead of his compatriots,we moan about it all the time simply because we are Nigerians and would prefer our own instead,I’m sure in Argentina they would be rooting for Simeoni despite Osimhen’s form it’s just what it’s.

          • @greenturf Osimhen is also 4 years younger than Simeone so imagine how good he will even get. I also think this is a factor for Spaletti

Napoli is blessed with 3 quality strikers with different characters. Victor, Simone and Raspadori. The three are good in their own way @Greenturf was spot on because that Simone guy if I want to be honest is a tidy finisher and can finish 9/10 chances right from his days from Hellas Verona he compliments Osigoal I hope Napoli keeps the two of them and win great things until Victor moves to Real Madrid. Wishful thinking Hala Madrid!!!

  • Nigeria have not had better strike force like these guys. Only a better coach can harmonies them for maximum impact in super eagles. Look man in right osimhen in central forward play iheanacho in left or Moses Simon

    • @IK whoever remembers me saying in the past that this current crop of players is our Golden Generation. remember my saying “Nigeria is currently in her Golden Generation” and NFF are doing us injustice by imposing old legs on our team based on Past glory. Well I hope you are all starting to see what I was saying now.

Also the same 94 set of players or Class of ’94 i.e. amokachi and Co know this hence they try and sabbotage us at ever expense with their clamour for Local players because those set of players (94 class) do not want this current generation to outdo their achievements

      • Osimhen’s goal made me remember Rasheed Yekini’s effort against Egypt in Tunisia 94 when he unleashed fierce after controlling the ball with chest and thigh but cross bar hindered the ball from going in.
Osimhen always eyes on goal like Yekini.
