Dr. Oriolowo Rapid & Blitz Chess Championship Kicked Off Wednesday In Iwo

The Dr. Niyi Oriolowo National Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships kicked off on Wednesday in Iwo, Osun State.

The venue for the two-day tournament which involves both males and females is the Kings Riverside Resort.

For the nine-round rapid tournament games, it starts by 10 am daily with a time control of 15 minutes plus 10 seconds added time.

While for the time control for the blitz tournament is five minutes plus three seconds added.

The prizes for the rapid tournament are: N100,000 for the first position, N75,000 for the second position, N50,000 for the third position and the fourth and fifth-placed players will get N25,000 and N10,000 respectively.

And for the 11 rounds blitz tournament, N50,000 will go to the winner, N30,000 is for the second position, the third position will get N20,000, the fourth position will go home with N10,000 while the fifth position will be rewarded with N5,000.

Meanwhile, the Kings Riverside Resort will host the National Arbiters Course, the FIDE Arbiters’ Course, and the National Chess Championship.

The National Arbiters Course will run from 8th to 10th, the FIDE Arbiters Course will hold from 11th to 14th and the National Chess Championship is scheduled for 10th to 14th, all in March 2020.
