NFF Must Hire A Technical, Tactical Coach As Rohr’s Replacement -Unuanel

Former Kwara United coach, Samson Unuanel has urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to hire a sound coach as Gernot Rohr’s replacement.

Pressure has mounted on the NFF to sack Rohr after the Nigeria put up an underwhelming performance against Cape Verde in their Qatar 2022 World Cup Group C final qualifier at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, last Tuesday.

However, with the NFF still searching for the German tactician’s replacement, Unuanel in a chat with Completesports.com stated that what the NFF Must appoint a coach with technical and tactician qualities to move the team forward.

“I am not really surprise that the NFF are searching for Rohr’s replacement considering how the team played against Cape Verde. With the array of players in our disposal, I don’t think Rohr should be finding it difficult to utilise them.

“Well, I just hope the NFF will hire a caoch that is technical and tactically sound to make the Super Eagles play quality football and qualify Nigeria for the 2022 World Cup.”

ANYONE TO BE EMPLOY MUST BE THE ONE THAT KNOWS ABOUT NIGERIA PLAYERS, AFRICA FOOTBALL & AFRICA MENTALITY AND GOOD TECHNICALLY SO THAT THE CASE OF NEW COACH WILL NOT BE LIKE THAT BE OF LARS LAGERBACK THAT CANNOT MENTION TWO NIGERIA PLAYERS APART FROM KANU, OKOCHA.

Teslim Balogun is never a yardstick for measurement. That’s The very fist error of judgement by the FA.

No sane football administrator will change his coach less than a month to a major tournament.
History will always repeat itself in Nigeria. We don’t learn our lessons.
We will continue to fail if we do not realize that football is a team sports and teams are not built in one day. What philosophy will a new coach impose on the team and the team masters the philosohpy within 5 days of camping before a major tournament. Remember clubs are lobbying Nff already to delay the release of their players (Rangers wants Aribo and Balogun to delay their arrival to camp until 6th January after they play Celtic, meanwhile tournament starts 9th January)
Let me remind us our history with sacking coaches before a tournamnet
      1. 1998 world cup, Philippe Troussier qualified the team for the world cup but he was sacked (after hammering Kenya 3-0 in Lagos. His offence was that he plays 3-5-2 formation) and they employed Bora Militunovic (world class coach).
Result: We were eliminated in the second round after chopping 4 goals from Denmark.
      2. 2002 world cup Amodu qualified the team and they sacked him, brought Onigbinde. Result: Lost 2 matches and drew the last one.
      3. 2010 world cup Amodu qualified the team and they sacked him, hired Lars Largaback to take the Team to the world cup, you all know the outcome.
So, let’s keep wasting our money for what we know will not yield anything positive.
We wait to see the magic a new coach will perform.

DO WE STILL REMEMBER THAT BEFORE GERNOT ROHR GET SUPER EAGLE OFFER, NIGERIA FAILED TO QUALIFY FOR TWO CONSECUTIVE AFCON COMPETITION. EVEN BEFORE WE QUALIFY FOR W/CUP, WE DO PERMUTATIONS BY PRAYING TO GOD FOR OUR OTHERS OPPONENTS TO LOSE THEIR NEXT TWO MATCHES.
***THE KEY FACTOR THAT MAKE GERNOT ROHR SUCCEED WITH SUPER EAGLE DESPITE THAT HE LACK TECHNICALITY OF THE GAME IS BECAUSE OF HIS “KNOWLEDGE OF AFRICA FOOTBALL & AFRICA MENTALITY” THIS SHOULD BE THE PARAMOUNT OF NEW COACH TO BE EMPLOY, IF NOT THE NEW COACH WILL FAIL WOEFULLY LIKE LARS LAGERBACK IN 2010 W/CUP

  • This tin will continue till we lose our first match against Egypt. Nonsense!

Oga unuanel, forget about quality football, what we want is winning. Rohr has delivered and is delivery.

If what own goal reported is true ineanacho n co organizing a sex party b4 a crucial game and Pinnick sheilding them from Rohr axe, then a lot is happening in the SE camp which we the fans are not aware of,AP is our problem he decides who GR invites and who starts, but we keep blaming GR that since he took over he doesn’t know his 1st eleven not knowing that Pinnick is d man behind d scene that is tweaking d team,we all are here criticizing d d innocent man, poor Rohr his passion n love for Nigeria, but I blame him he should ve alerted d mrdia on what is happening rather than keeping quiet now Pinnick is using him as d scapegoat, the reason why westerhor succeeded was because he was reporting directly to the vice president,Guys Pinnick is our problem n not Rohr,
Musa has rubbed his face on the mud 80% of the fans say they don’t want u why can’t you do the honorable thing resign and concentrate on your club football, you are now telling d fans wether de like it or not u will be there to what end?guys go to owngoal n see for yourself
    God bless Nigeria

    • Amaju Pinnick is not the problem. How are you sure the news is even legitimate in the first place. Stop jumping guns saying this and that. If the news is true and Amaju Pinnick did that, then that is the right thing to do rather than disrupt the camp few days to a World Cup qualifier. After the qualifiers have held, then disciplinary committee takes action. But this can only be achieved if NFF has met all its obligations to the team and coaching crew. Everyone will come to equity in the end. But I doubt that even the NFF cannot be at an equitable position with the players and salaries. Let’s stop following rumours. Following rumours instead of facts causes great harm to its listeners in the end.

Oga 2004 nations cup yakubu n co broke camp rules n were axed from the camp y didn’t de wait until d competition is over b4 facing d disciplinary committee, rule na rule baba, and as d saying goes behind every rumour there is an element of truth, after visiting ineanacho n ndidi in London why won’t he cover nacho yansh??oga Pinnick na our problem though my opinion but trust me truth is d ancient tradition that unites mankind one day

      • Michel 2 years ago

Iheanacho has always been a disgrace and one the players that should be axed from the team, with likes of Musa, ighalo, shehu,Collins and co.ighalo was even better than him on that day.

  • Chima E Samuels 2 years ago

@Chidi Kelechi Iheanacho has gone back to his old ways I sorry for that boy. No wonder Ndidi is more classy than him. Most of this guys need proper guidance to educate them or better still educate themselves on the kind of choices they make because money itself can be destruction to early birds who came from poor back ground…..I sorry for Kelechi Iheanacho especially because he is going backwards like play like play again let him ask Isaac Success!!!

    • @Chidi, Michel and Chima, In 2004 a name came out that was Yakubu abi? This one sounds like “dem say”. Rumours, that’s all. Let’s stop being judgemental until facts come out. Stop believing a rumour not proven.

Has any soccer coach ever left the Nigerian national team without acrimony and unpaid salaries? Name hm please. Corruption is killing our football!

  • Ayphillydegreat 2 years ago

But how did Awaziem lasted 90 minutes in that match and was miles our best defender on the day? We all know that Omeruo has lost his place to Ekong and Balogun for the past 3 years and Kelechi has always been an improvised player. Maybe if he had started we can blame him fully. Just my second thought on this rumor. Obviously, playing for the SuperEagles a lot of females will be around the players. Not just ordinary females, some Naija big girls that have a crush or two on players in the SuperEagles will show up. Abi no be Eko?? For instance look at that woman in the Nigeria high commission in Cameroon how he was hugging Musa to take pictures with him. I think there might not really be an iota of truth in this rumor. I’m not saying it might not have happened as we’re all humans with fleshy desires. Even those of us who live and work in diaspora we know how females flock to us anytime we enter Naija especially Eko Ile!!! Not to talk of star players who are grown men and some of them are even married. Meanwhile, on an international duty that’s disgusting if true particularly when you’re representing over 200 million people both home and in diaspora. Most fans are now worried because of the AFCON in less that 6 weeks Lmao!! If we hadn’t qualified for the AFCON in the first place everyone will mostly focus on European football. By the way I’m watching a fascinating battle between Aina and Udogie in Torino and Udinese Serie A match. Aina is really fantastic attacking wise. Sometimes players like that can be vulnerable defensively. Just my observation as to why Simon is preferred, but we do need to replace Simon in that role though.

    • Rohr is not the problem of Nigeria look at the history and you would understand. What the said of ihenacho is not true becuase he understands what is at stake. May l remind you that ihenacho is the maradona of nigeria football. Wait and see in the future tournaments

  • Quality football abeg which one is quality football without result?. It’s only in Nigeria i know without sacking the current coach you are pencilling down names. Is it not embarrassing to our football. Even if you are talking to another coach it wouldn’t gain much publicity until you sack the one in charge and make announcement for another or you begin the process. This evening it is one Portuguese coach they are mentioning again. I wish Rohr could leave their job for them so that one can finally rest since they said he is the problem affecting their football despite the effort the poor man has put by working without pay though some terrible fans said because he knows he can’t get another job elsewhere. We wait to see how it all ends..

Mladen Krstajic is the Joseph Yobo of Serbia.
He had 59 caps for the Serbia team as a center back. In 2016, he was drafted in to be the assistant coach of the Serb1a team, with zero coaching experience. A year later, he was made the head coach.
Coaching Serbia is his only coaching experience.
He does have administrative experience. He was chairman of the Bosnia premier league club Radnik, and in his tenure, the club enjoyed unprecedented successes, finishing in the top 6 for the first time in their history, winning the Bosnian cup in 2016 for the first time in their history, and qualifying for Europe also for the first time in their history.
Unlike Yobo, he did have his coaching badges. What he lacks is extensive coaching experience. He’s likely learned a thing or two from his stint with Serbia, where he had a higher quality squad to work with, compared with the current Nigeria squad.
He is a younger coach with fresh ideas and is ambitious and hungry to make a name for himself. But by firing Rohr, we will be upsetting the apple cart. The Rohr era was not flashy or stylish, but we rose in the rankings, and qualified for major tournaments. Let’s hope by getting rid of him, we’re not transitioning from the proverbial frying pan into the raging fire.
If Krstajic is hired, all we can do is give him our support and hope for the best.

Harsh criticism from a biased pundit.
The first goal happened after Balogun was fouled in the box. Wrestled to the ground by a Hibs player. That goal should have been disallowed.
The second goal, Balogun was turned by a Hibs player. But it was not as bad as this biased pundit described. Even the best defenders get dribbled from time to time. Recall what Iwobi did to Uncle Mascherano when we beat them 4-2? Nutmegged the poor guy before going on to score the 4th goal. That doesn’t make Mascherano a defender that can’t make the local pub team, does it?
Not all pundits are objective in their analyses. Some are enraged that a foreigner is in the starting eleven, benching a local boy. And they will do all they can to discredit the foreigner.
See the highlights below and judge for yourself.

I watched the highlight too and that was actually harsh on Balogun but the media in that side of the world are bipolar. Praise their won players to the high heavens and condemn a foreign player for the slightest..

  • Men and brothers of this platform, there is no need losing sleep over sacking the present SE coach. He collects salary, so he must justify his pay.Cape Verde played better and you could see their movements on and off the ball. They had a plan backed up tactically and they got a result, though not good enough to move on.Knowing their pedigree, that draw on our soil was a huge statement.Coaching generally is hiring and firing,so “soldier go,soldier come” they say.We have the materials and if changing the coach will take us to the next level,so be it.Five solid years for me, is enough to stamp his signature on our pattern of play, which is evidently lacking for now.I rest my case

This knucklehead Tom English or whatever his name is, what a clown he is!
He may have been physically present for the game, but his mind obviously was not. If he really concentrated on the game, he would see that Balogun was actually not that bad. Made some mistakes, but was let down by his team mates as well. Just a bad day for the Rangers team overall. It happens in football.
The statement that Balogun can’t make the local pub team suggests Mr. English has a chip on his shoulder, and wanted to score some cheap publicity with a crude joke.
I don’t blame him though. I blame the people that keep him employed in the first place.
BBC Scotland Chief Sports Writer? Hahahahaha! What the heck is going on over there at BBC Scotland?
BBC Scotland need to thoroughly review their personnel and hiring process. How a fool like this fell thru the cracks is beyond comprehension. If the Chief Sports writer is like this, how many other mistakes did they make?
If I’m being harsh in my assessment of Mr. English, he deserves it. Let him see what it’s like to be on the receiving end.

I think Rhor tenure hadn’t any taste and smell that means he hasn’t any pattern and style of playing with Super Eagles; somtimes applays 4-3-3 somtimes 3-5-2 also other 4-2-3-1 then he hadn’t done a defensive style or mentality in his team.NFF must hire a coach who has this mentality of a defensive style because SE have been lacking this style for many years from 2000 till now they can’t tight defensive midfield and back line; this appears on fool lapses by defensive midfielders and backs whitch had cost Nigeria more and more like Central Africa match, Cape Verde match, Algeria match on Afcon. Cup semi-final 2019 in Egypt, on Sierra leone match all these matches had appeard SE defensive weakness versus thier rival above mentioned.Mladen Krastjic is a smart coach does a good jobs but hasn’t any experience with African football and thier mentality,so if he was hired as SE coach he might to know Nigeria players at NPL and thier culture he also must rove around Nigerian clubs then he can watch NPL matches then he can also select an excellent players for SE squad. In his contract one of the item he must develop a local leauge, he must follow the leauge and have to select an excellent players for SE, he must play an excellent pattern of play whitch can drive and lead SE to a brightened era that means to creat a quality strong team who can beat and fear any team in Africa and the World.

  • Bye bye Rhor

Please it will be better to move all SE matches to Moshood Abiola Stadium Abuja. Please, is it true that CAF may drag all the countries that qualified for the play offs to Dubai for one legged affair? This news came from Cairo recently.

    Sorry not Dubai but Qatar.
