Nigeria, Benin On Alert As CAF Re-Opens Bids For AFCON 2025

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has re-opened bids for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, reports Completesports.com.

CAF formally stripped Guinea of the rights to host AFCON 2025 on Saturday.

The rights withdrawal followed a meeting on Friday in Conakry between Guinea’s interim president, Col. Mamady Doumbouya, and CAF President Patrice Motsepe.

Guinea’s inability was due to its infrastructure and facilities not being ready to host a 24-team tournament.

It would be recalled that erstwhile president of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick once stated that the country would be willing to co-host AFCON 2025 with next door neighbour, Benin Republic.

Cote d’ voire will host the next edition of the AFCON in 2023.

  • If we have to host, let’s go it alone. It is time to bear our father’s name and stop playing a big brother that does not benefit us in anyway. Let’s face it, these other African countries don’t like us. They only like us when they want to use us or have other motives. Time to borrow brains.

Nigeria should not bother hosting the nations cup. we should be setting our eyes on global tournaments like the Fifa clubs cup or intercontinental cups. This Fifa championships attracts more points and financial rewards and a veritable platform to host the world cup in future. for God sake, when are we going to wake up and see the bigger picture. Spanish football took a revolutionary leap after hosting the world cup in 1982
