After a nearly three-decade hiatus, the prestigious Nigeria Open Golf Tournament is officially making its long-awaited return.
The Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF), led by President Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, has announced that the marquee championship will take place from November 16 to 20, 2027.
The tournament was a cornerstone of Nigerian sports history, running from 1969 through 1999, primarily hosted at the Ikoyi Club in Lagos before moving to the IBB International Golf and Country Club in Abuja for its final editions.

Runsewe made this known on Saturday in Abuja, where he noted that the federation deliberately took time to build sustainable structures, including the implementation of the World Handicap System index, a new digital infrastructure, and a heavy focus on IT-driven youth and coaching development programs.
“We are very happy to announce that we will be organising a befitting Nigeria Open Golf Tournament, the biggest golfing event in the country after two decades of absence.”
“This is going to be a new beginning for golf in Nigeria. We are just opening up a new chapter for golf in Nigeria and Africa.”

The NGF anticipates competitors from over 20 countries across Africa, Europe, and beyond, with a competitive field of 150 to 200 elite golfers expected to vie for top honors.
Discussions are currently underway with the world-class Lakowe Lakes Golf Resort in Lagos to host the high-profile event.
The event is planned as a 64-hole, four-day Pro-Am tournament featuring official world-ranking status and an Amateur World Ranking connection, giving winners a pathway to international circuits.
