Former Delta Queens and Rivers Angels head coach, Tosan Blankson, has been appointed head coach of Calabar Rovers ahead of the 2026/2027 Nigeria National League season, Completesports.com reports.
Calabar Rovers Secure NNL Return
This followed the Canaan City side’s acquisition of the NNL slot of OYC FC, Warri. OYC gained promotion to the NNL after the conclusion of the 2026 Nationwide League One play-off for the South-South zone.
Calabar Rovers were relegated to the NLO at the end of the 2025/2026 NNL campaign but swiftly bought over the NNL spot of Warri-based OYC FC.
“I’m now with Calabar Rovers,” Blankson, a former Rangers and Heartland defender, told Completesports.com on Wednesday.

“You know I left Rivers Angels before now. So, right now, I’m with Calabar Rovers FC.”
Blankson Takes Charge At Calabar Rovers
Blankson has already assumed duties at his new club ahead of the 31 October 2026 kick-off date for the 2026/2027 NNL season.
“I’m in Calabar now. We’ve started screening for players as the first stage of our preparation for the new season,” Blankson said on Tuesday.
NNL Season Set For October 31 Kick-Off
The 2026/27 Nigeria National League (NNL) season is scheduled to kick off on Saturday, 31 October 2026, following the ratification of the date at the league’s recently held Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Owerri.
For the new campaign, participating clubs have been grouped into four conferences: Southern Conference A, Southern Conference B, Northern Conference A and Northern Conference B.
The structure is designed to provide a highly competitive season, with clubs vying for promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
At the end of the campaign, the winners of each of the four conferences will earn automatic promotion to the NPFL.
