Abia Warriors have confirmed the return of Head Coach Imama Amapakabo to the club’s dugout after he served the suspension imposed on him by the management, Completesports.com reports.
Amapakabo, a former Nigeria junior international, previously had a managerial spell with Rwandan club Etoile de L’Est, where he replaced Maurice Nshimiyamana in 2024.
The former Super Eagles assistant coach was suspended by the Abia Warriors management following the club’s 2-0 home defeat to struggling Kun Khalifat FC of Owerri in the 2025/2026 NPFL Matchday 37 Oriental Derby.
Amapakabo Back To Lead Abia Warriors Into New Season
On Wednesday morning, the club’s Executive Chairman, John Obuh, confirmed to Completesports.com that Imama Kweku Amapakabo has returned to his role and is preparing the team for the 2026/2027 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

“Imama (Amapakabo) has resumed duties,” Obuh said when Completesports.com asked about the suspended coach’s situation ahead of the new season.
“He returned to his duty post weeks ago. Right now, he’s preparing the club for the 2026/2027 season. We’re a club driven by the spirit of continuity.
“Yes, there are bound to be disagreements, even in a family. Such issues are always resolved so the family can move forward.
“Right now, our preoccupation is the coming season and we believe that with continuity, team spirit and by correcting the mistakes of last season, we can make a good impact.”
Pre-Season Plans Left To Amapakabo-Led Technical Crew
Asked about the club’s pre-season programme, the former Golden Eaglets coach said the responsibility rests with the technical crew, who will prepare and submit their schedule for management’s review and approval.
“The technical crew will present their schedule, including pre-season tournaments. We’ll study it and, if necessary, give our approval,” Obuh said.
Abia Warriors Focus On Building For 2026/2027 Campaign
With Amapakabo back in charge, the club is now concentrating on preparations for the new NPFL campaign, with the management banking on stability and continuity to improve on last season’s performance.
