Akwa United head coach Kennedy Boboye has inspired his players to put their shock home defeat to Kwara United behind them and focus on getting a positive result in Kano against Kano Pillars this weekend.
Alao Dambani’s brace condemned the Promise Keepers to their first home defeat and their fourth in 15 games this season but coach Boboye believes that the result was a wake up call for his team to redouble their efforts in subsequent matches.
“Maybe we were over confident by the fine run we had. Losing in such a manner to Kwara United at home was quite devastating but we have moved on from that shock although we have learnt lots of lessons from that game.
“Our attention is now on the next game against Kano Pillars. I have spoken with the boys and they have responded very well, I’m confident that they are ready to put up a good fight in Kano because we want to redeem ourselves.
” We have to get back to winning ways and ensure that we sustain it. We really want to make a mark in the remaining 23 games of this season and we are committed to taking it one game at a time”.
Akwa United endured a difficult start to the season but improved remarkably under new coach Kennedy Boboye who guided the team to five wins and a draw in his first six games before losing to Kwara United on Matchday 15.
The Promise Keepers are 6th on the log with 23 points from 15 games, and they could move into the top three if they beat 13th placed Kano Pillars who have garnered 17 points from 13 games with two outstanding matches. The Uyo based side have won four, lost two and drew one of their previous seven games against Kano Pillars in the NPFL.
