NPFL: Rivers United, Plateau United Win Away; Enyimba Down Remo Stars

Rivers United and Plateau United continued their push to win the 2021/22 Nigeria Professional Football League title after recording away wins on Wednesday, reports Completesports.com.

League leaders Rivers United maintained top spot on the table after edging out Kano Pillars 1-0 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.

Forward Nyima Nwagua scored the winning goal against his former club 20 minutes from time.

Plateau United defeated Lobi Stars 2-0 at the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi with Chimezie Izuchukwu and Albert Hilary scoring the goals.

Champions Akwa United beat Wikki Tourists 2-0 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.

Adamu Yakubu put the hosts in front in the 49th minute, while Leo Ezekiel doubled the advantage a minute later.

In Aba, Victor Mbaoma scored against his former club Remo Stars, who lost 2-1 against Enyimba.

Mbaoma put the former champions ahead in the 37th minute, while Ekene Awazie scored the second goal five minutes after the break

Junior Nduka reduced the deficit from the spot 20 minutes from time.

In Lafia, Nasarawa United rallied back from a goal down to draw 1-1 with Kwara United.

Alao Danbani’s 19th minute strike was cancelled out by Michael Tochukwu.

MFM boosted their survival hopes with a 1-1 away draw against Niger Tornadoes.

Richie Eguavoen opened scoring for MFM in the 15th minute, before Kabiru Adeniji levelled scores for the home team in the 37th minute.

At the Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu Ode, Sunshine Stars outclassed Heartland 3-1, while Gombe United pip Abia Warriors 1-0 at the Pantami Stadium.

Katsina United recorded biggest win of the day thrashing Dakkada 4-1 at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium.

    Akwa United didn’t play two matches in a day as you reported,it was Abia warriors that Gombe beat and the Enyimba game, Enyimba was already 2 goals up and it was Remo that scored from the penalty spot to reduce the deficit. The score of the last game of the day between Shooting Stars vs Rangers ended 1-1 at Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan. Elijah Ani scored first for Rangers in addition time of first half and Emmanuel Chinedu equalized for the home team in second half.
