“Honestly, when I came here, I met a good team on the ground,” the 64-year-old coach Yusuf said.
“But I think I’ll have to work hard to make it a better team, more competitive, especially as we have three competitions in front of us — the NPFL, the President Federation Cup and CAF Confederation Cup.

“The NPFL will start this weekend, but our match against Inter Lagos will hold on Friday, 28 August 2026. It’s an ‘early’ kick-off game, so we’re focusing on it because it’s always important to start a season with a good result,” he concluded.
Shooting Stars Face Three-Competition Challenge
Yusuf has previously had coaching spells at Kano Pillars, Rangers and Nasarawa United, among other leading Nigerian clubs.
The 2026/2027 EuroMatch NPFL kicks off this weekend, with Shooting Stars hosting Inter Lagos at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, on Friday, 28 August 2026, in the first fixture of Matchday One.
