Nwobodo Is Best Player In Goztepe Win Vs Rizespor

Ex Nigeria youth international, Obinna Nwobodo, has continued to impress in Turkey as another superb showing saw him picked as Man Of The Match on Tuesday, Completesports.com reports.

Modest Super Lig side, Goztepe, returned to winning ways, defeating Rizespor 2-0 at their Gursel Aksel Stadium home, and Nwobodo, who was making a comeback to the side after suspension, was pivotal to the victory.

Though he was not involved in any of the goals, the energetic performance of the former Rangers International of Enugu linchpin did not go unnoticed as his effervescent display was seen as what propelled Gotzepe to victory.

The 24 year-old has been receiving rave reviews in the Turkish media since his move to the country from Hungarian top division side, Ujpest, at the start of this season. Already, he is being compared to renowned midfielders Michael Essien and Ngolo Kante. He has also been variously given the nicknames; ‘The Octopus’ and ‘Spider’ to describe his far and wide ball winning forays on the field.

Nwobodo has become an important player for Goztepe so much so that some of the club’s fans are pushing for him to be given a new contract for five years. His current deal expires in 2022 with an option for an additional year.

He has been touted as one of the best three defensive midfielders in the Turkish top flight and has featured in 24 of the Izmir-based club’s matches this season, recording two goal assists.

The win against Rizesopor helped Goztepe to the ninth position on 35 points from 33 games in the 21-team Turkish Super Lig table.

Up next for Nwobodo and his team is a Super Lig clash with home side, Hataypor, this Saturday.
