Obaseki: Fans Will Enjoy Watching Super Eagles Play In ‘World Class’ Benin Stadium

Edo State governor Godwin Obaseki has said football fans will enjoy watching the Super Eagles play in the world class Samuel Ogbemudia stadium, when they face Sierra Leone on Friday, Completesports.com reports.

Obaseki made this known during his visit to the Eagles training session on Wednesday.

The Governor expressed his delight the stadium will host the qualifier while explaining it’s importance in Nigerian sport.

“We are very excited. This is the reason why we took our time to rebuild this stadium after 45 years when it was originally constructed, for us, in Edo and Bendel it’s very synonymous with sport in Nigeria.

“As a government we are re-enacting our past. We want to go back to what we use to be, the sporting state of the country, the state that represent the country in sport and art and culture.

“So we’ve take our time and resources to make sure we build a world class facility and you would agree with me this is close to what you can find anywhere else and I’m sure all their fans will relish watching them play in Benin.”

On the Eagles returning to the stadium for future games, Obaseki said:”We have to bid for matches and this facility will be top and will be able to win most of the bids to host matches.”

World class? Look at the grass

  • My main concern is the broadcast. The last SE ‘home’ against Benin Republic broadcast by the 18th century, analogue NTA gave people eye problems and no one even saw the matches or goals clearly. I hope it’s SuperSports this time abeg oo.

I am still a bit skeptical about the playing turf and not the stadium itself because that is where the real action will take place.

Mere looking at its pictures so far, I haven’t been that convinced And I hope it eventually proves my fear wrongly comes tomorrow.

The pitch is not appealing to me unlike the one in UYO as well as those in Europe where competitions are being played.

The contractors who are saddled with the responsibilities of stadia construction in nigeria should please always take into cognizance the kind of grass they adopted as that’s where the actions for the soldiers lie the most.

Be as e be sierra leone go cllect tomorrow by HIS grace.

….the grass is lush on a solid platform. It’s so sweet to play football on it. I can assure you that.
Obaseki is a governor that has eyes for quality. His Deputy is a footballer and quite understand what is required. The NFF was involved from the beginning to the end. Rhor confirmed recently that the pitch is excellent and good for good football…I really appreciate your concern but our fears are quite sorted.

Abdul Handsy, be very careful ooo! As you have spoken your mind and said that there is uncertainty as to the quality of the turf in the stadium, a statement which is the truth, a certain Benin man in this forum I have nicknamed Ignoramus Maximus may launch a scathing attack on you! He will accuse you of insulting and disrespecting Benin City! Looooool!
