Ocampos: Osimhen Won’t Stay Long In Lille

Lille sporting director Luis Ocampos has revealed that it took him years before he was able to sign NIgeria forward Victor Osimhen for the club.

Osimhen has enjoyed a blistering start to his career with Lille, scoring seven goals and recording two assists in nine league appearances for the club following his arrival from Belgian outfit in the summer.

Campos has unearthed over £500m worth of footballing talent during his time at Monaco and Lille.

His CV is quite something, helping unearth Kylian Mbappe, Nicolas Pepe, James Rodriguez, Anthony Martial, Fabinho, Bernardo Silva and Benjamin Mendy.

“I went to Lagos to see the U17 World Championships. After one match I wanted him. But his price was very expensive for a 17-year-old. I spoke to my CEO. I called him every night saying, ‘Please give me this player, he is amazing. In two years he will be one of the best in Europe,”Ocampos told Skysports.

“In the end the player went to Wolfsburg. I went to Wolfsburg just to see him play. Sometimes he only played for five minutes, sometimes only two. I was crazy for him! Then he had a virus and had five or six months not playing and went to Charleroi in Belgium. Two months later I signed him. So itʼs a nice story. I lost the player but then got him back.

“If all is normal at the end of the season there will be a big move for him because he’s like a cat. You know, if you have a cat and give it a ball! Heʼs unbelievable. In the last 20 metres he attacks every ball. Every ball. Like a cat.”

Osimhen can only get better, the lad is freaking good. Scoring in all matches of the then U17 tournament wasn’t an easy task and I guess that’s a record set by Victor .
    #Soar high Osimhen
    #Soar high Super eagles

Yes, still holds the record of highest goal ever scored in U-17 level with 10 goals. Now its obvious it was not a fluke. Well done as i believe you will break more records.

You see how long scouts monitor players before eventually making the big move for them…?

Let one Chukwuemeka Adewale Ciroma score in 2 consecutive weekends in Europe now and see how the “Rohr must invite him” chorus will resound on CSN.

Some people will even brag that they where the ones that discovered him for Rohr as if its not the same internet where they get news round ups the rest of the world also reads too.

I used to be furious when Gernot Rohr wouldn’t stop giving invitations to Osimhen even when he wasn’t making the reigns at Wolfsburg….not knowing that the old man was seeing something the rest of us weren’t seeing in the boy.

Has anyone noticed the aggression with which Osimhen plays now…? the Pace, Power and Aggression that wasn’t there last season when he was in Chaleroi…? Is it a mere coincidence that he has added these ingredients to his game only after Rohr charged him at the AFCON to stop being a softie and falling to the ground everytime he has company…???

    • The @Dr drey man where have you been?,it has been long that I haven’t seen ur wonderful contributions here though this Csn journalists are putting me in nerves with tomori or tomorrow and Abraham issues,

I love this news . Victor Oshimen is the next big thing the world is gonna see . Scoring 10 goals in the u-17 world cup was no joke. Jes gonna be one of the greatest players the world has ever seen .

  • I hope Victor will be well utilized in SE with right, timely and accurate passes from the midfielders and the supporting strikers then avalanche of goals will be the end product for Nigeria. Victor Osimhen sky is just the limit for your blossom

I like Osimhen, but remember guys, he is just another kid on the block. Don’t hype him too much. Iheanacho started out like this. The toughness of a player is known when he is down and we are still waiting for Iheanacho to proove his doubters wrong.

Osimhen is good. My advice for him will be to avoid England by all means. Go to a team that will play him and is ready to invest time training him. Please Osimhen, dont aim for Chelsea, Man U, Man C, Leicester, or any other English clubs. Go to teams that are good competitors in the Champions league. Some of these well respected clubs that invest in players like his talents are Ajax, PSG, Milan clubs, German clubs (consider that alot). Only move to English teams when you have made a name or probably won the champions league with another team.

    The oracle has spoken!!!

@Edoguy. Nice write up but I stand to disagree on your statement where you said “DON’T HYPE HIM TOO MUCH”

My people this matter of Hype should be well noted by football loving fans in Nigeria and in Diaspora. I was listening to Vincent Enyeama in an interview with the presenter on a Supersport program tagged “Naija Made” and when the presenter asked him about how he feels hearing News of Victor Oshimen’s recent exploits at his former club LILLE, He said in summary “he is very happy even though he has not met him since he arrived but he would like to plead to Nigerians and them(The Media) that they should please not just mention Oshimen and others whenever they score and talk them down during bad times but always cultivate the habit of HYPING them when they are in form”. He stated Oshimen specifically and other talents we have at the moment like Chukwueze and Kalu et al. He then made a point to back up his statement which made me concur with him. He said “Tammy Abraham, Mbappe are what they are today because of the hype they get from there fans and Media”…True or Not? True! All the young talents abroad presently making the news like Jao Felix of Atletico Madrid, Kluivert AS Roma, Viniscus JR of Real Madrid are just the superstars of our present generation today just because of the HYPE they get…simple! As at last season, Chukwueze was way better than Viniscus of Real Madrid but didn’t win LaLiga young player award just because he was not known to everyone the way Viniscus as been hyped! My people, what special thing have you heard of Viniscus this season?? and consider our very own Chukwueze still making the news but when Viniscus gets back to the field and scores just a Goal, his name will be everywhere.

The latest one now is Tammy and Ansu Fati of Barça. See the hype Ansu Fati has gotten since he came on this season only, am sure Chukwueze will be shunned for La Liga awards this season again despite his hard work and consistency while that boy might be given. Why? Cuz he’s not receiving the kind of Hype Ansu is receiving from the Media. Tammy is in no way better than VICTOR OSHIMEN! I can say that anywhere. I’ve watched Tammy play. He doesn’t chase the ball down and make the defense restless the way Oshimen does. He’s just a skillful striker that ensures he utilizes the chances that comes his way.. Nothing more and all this attributes of him, Oshimen also possesses them. So why would we have an Oshimen yet bite our fingers that we lost Tammy to England?? Cuz the British Media(the Boss at hyping) and Goal plus there fans have HYPED the hell outta that kid just cuz he’s scored 8 league goals and a Champions League goal.. Imagine!

So imagine the Greater heights our player would have gotten to if we also Hype our players! The fact that we all have to embrace so as to see our own players too winning AFOTY and numerous awards is that we should learn to cultivate the habit of HYPING our players when they are so when they lost form sef, people won’t notice just like what is happening to Viniscus JR. of R.Madrid now. CSN and other Media platforms, please Hype our players! We the fans Let’s HYPE them! Hype them! Hype them!

    Thanks

The lad is destined for the big stage. No question about that. I sincerely hope he does not emulate Iheanacho in letting his initial success get to his head. Iheanacho appears to have gone downhill not because of his faltering ability, rather his attitude. He has stopped growing and maturing football wise since leaving Man City.

  • @chairmanfemi, thanks for the submission. With a close look at osimhen and his style of play, one will wonder how much he could perform with a world class midfield behind him. He is a better player than Abraham without a doubt and that is one reason I am really irritated by what CSN is doing. They keep hyping this Tammy guy as if he is the best thing since slice bread was invented. We have a better player in Osimhen but they will rather keep hyping someone who has told us where his heart is.

Personally, I do not blame Abraham for choosing England. It’s his choice and I wish him well. But the way CSN has been throwing the guy’s name on our faces is highly ridiculous and disrspectful. The whole world will be tempted to believe the likes of Tammy (an English player) is better because of the media outfits like CSN who keep overhyping them at the expense of our owns.

Again, have a look at Tomori closely and tell me if he has what it takes to walk straight into SE’s first eleven. Unless there is favoritism I do not see that happening presently. If Tomori joins SE’s camp today he has his work cut out for him. I dare say Ajayi is better than him. So, tell me, why will CSN not hype Ajayi, Awaziem and Kenneth but keep promoting Tomori as if he is such an exceptional player we could not do without?

CSN journalists have been demonstrating slavery mentality by not valuing what we have enough but overhyping what we do not have. We should stop shooting ourselves in the foot. Let’s value what we have and stop promoting what we do not have. I strongly agree with you. We despise our own and join others to magnify what they have. It’s time Naija media began charity at home.

    My on cent!

If anyone here watch chelsea vs lille, you will agree with me that osimhen is far better than Tammy. Osimhen does not only strike but also defend. He is everywhere on the pitch. World best coming to nija soon. Osimhen oyea
