Bundesliga club Hertha Berlin on Wednesday announced the loan signing of Nigeria international Chidera Ejuke from CSKA Moscow.

“Nigeria international Ejuke has played his football in Russia since the summer of 2020, scoring 10 goals and setting eight more up in 65 competitive appearances.

“Before his time in Russia, the right-footed attacker played for SC Heerenveen in the Eredivisie, with 16 goal involvements in 29 games in the 2019/20 season.

“Before that, Ejuke played in Norway between 2017 and 2019, scoring 15 goals and notching 6 assists in 69 appearances for Vålerenga Fotball. The attacker made the step to professional football in his homeland of Nigeria, where he played for Supreme Court FC and then Gombe United.

  • Good move by Chidera Ejike! Hope you go on to have a productive season and stay put in the Bundesliga or move to another elite league. Good luck to you!

A good move indeed.  I truly hope the bundesliga polishes your skills and on field awareness to unlock the potential we all see in you.  You have qualities that no other Super Eagle player has but it needs to be harnessed to benefit the team.  Once that’s done, I see you as the wildcard we’ve been sorely missing to unlock defenses

Major reason why many of the SE wingers goal contribution per game is so low is the fact that many of them love to hug the byeline. The closer a player is to the opponent box 18, the higher the chance of scoring. Watch how mane and salah operate. They are often time at the edge of the opponents box.

  • Anyone saying Ejuke does not dribble forward does not know football……Ejuke’s kind of dribbling is progressive because he allows the ball do the running and uses his body movement and pace to decieve the marker……. Also His finishing rate is very high for a midfielder……All this stats are taken from his club performance which is the main reason A bundeliga club is signing him now……Ejuke has been guilty of try too much to impress at national team level and I will forgive him for that…..I will forgive him because the bar is raised so high for certain players and very low for certain players and Ejuke falls in the fist category…….Some played get selected over and over again no matter how little they contribute while others are given a very short window of opportunity to impress or get kicked out and it’s affecting Ejuke’s game in the national team……The little time he has on the pitch he wants to do too much because he does not know if he will get a chance again…….. Please before you rate Ejuke take a look at his highlights at club level.

It’s all about end product. The guy is talented, that is beyond question. However, he needs to consistently produce assists and goals. Let’s hope the coaches at Hertha can guide him accordingly.

Talking about talent, I heard that a certain lad is now being touted by Bolton Wanderers fans as THE NEW OKOCHA. His name is DAPO AFOLAYAN.
Did not find much by way of clips, but found this. Kindly ignore the offensive rap lyrics.

Looks like a decent player, but it begs the question. What is he doing in an English League One club?
Note: League One is the 3rd tier of English football. This is a player who was at West Ham not too long ago.
We’ll see if he lives up to the hype when the new season begins. Jay Jay’s shoes are BIG shoes to fill.

Actually we can’t fault Bolton Wanderers fans for referring to him as the new JJ. That’s easy for them to say because perhaps he’s an important player for them at League One at the moment and he’s a Nigerian with some sort of skills as well. They’re arguably right for the present (League One’s) Bolton Wanderers. However, we Nigerians and in fact the Premier League fans know quite well that such a player would still have a long way to go to fill Jay Jay’s very big shoes.
