OFFICIAL: NFF Announces Peseiro New Super Eagles Head Coach

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed the appointment of Jose Peseiro as the new head coach of the Super Eagles.

“José Vitor dos Santos Peseiro, 62 last month, is a Portuguese who played as a striker in his days and has wide and varied experience coaching top Clubs and National Teams across four different continents, namely Europe, Asia, Africa and South America. An educationist with a degree in physical education/sports sciences, Peseiro has top-level coaching qualifications/training, and has coached at Sporting Lisbon, FC Porto, Panathinaikos, Rapid Bucharest, Sporting Braga, Victoria Gumaraes, Al-Hilal, Al-Wahda, Al-Ahly Cairo, Sharjah FC and Real Madrid (assistant coach during the Galacticos era), as well as serving as Head Coach of the Saudi Arabian and Venezuelan National Teams.

“Peseiro is expected to lead out the Super Eagles for the first time during the upcoming tour of the United States of America, during which the three –time African champions will slug it out with Mexico and Ecuador ‘A’ Teams in prestige friendlies. The Eagles will tango with the El Tri at the AT & T Stadium in Dallas, State of Texas on Saturday, 28th May before flying to New Jersey to confront Ecuador at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison on Thursday, 2nd June.

“The NFF also announced that former Nigeria international forward, Finidi George will now be 1st Assistant to Peseiro, with Salisu Yusuf now to be 2nd Assistant as well as Head Coach of the CHAN and U23 National Teams. Usman Abdallah is 3rd Assistant while Eboboritse Uwejamomere will be the Match Analyst and another former Nigeria international, Ike Shorounmu will be the Goalkeepers’ Trainer.“

Peseiro was initially appointed Eagles coach prior to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, but the NFF later retained the services of Austine Eguavoen who failed to qualify the country for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

  • Good that Salisu is demoted to 2nd assistant cos tbh I didn’t understand that list he released. It seemed to be clouded with too much sentiment – rather than pure merit.

Welcome Mr Paseiro. We hope your tenure will usher in a new era in which the SE will finally be able to maximuse its incredible potentials, rule Africa and cause major upsets at the global stage

I suspect it must have been at the request of the new coach.Does not want work with a shady character.

I’m still wondering what Nigeria stands to gain by appointing this man. In fact, if achievements at club and national team levels were to be the criteria, Rohr had rather been left to continue his job than bring a coach who failed in almost all the places he coached. Guess they went for the cheapest and not the best. I’m just hoping that someone isn’t recycling failure in the system. Oga Pinnick, well done

Nigeria will gain stability at the MNT level and will not go through the nonsense and cronyism we all saw with the consortium of Nigerian coaches, which led to our worst result in AFCON in 40 years and being knocked out of the World Cup by Ghana, all within the space of 90 days.

  • Let’s hope this move pays at the end. The likes of Westerhorf, Bonfere and Otto Gloria were once unknown and average before they were appointed back then.
The only positive I see here is Finidi becoming the direct assistant. We have seen the best of Salisu and his worst already, let’s see what Finito can do.

It seems the sports ministry is still not on board with this appointment. They are insisting on more interviews, since the FG will be paying the coach directly.

NFF goofed with the appointment of Egu. They knew this, even they ain’t admitting it. The question that should have come to their mind while appointing Eguaveon was “Is this man better than the one we are sacking?” If the answer is no, why should we give him the job? Rohr would have comfortably taken us to the semis at AFCON and beaten Ghana home and away! And who says he can’t take us a step further at the WC? So painful watching this glamorous competition at home when we could have easily been there.

Confusion every where. What kind of people we have running everything in this country?

Few hours ago, Paseiro was rejected and now, Paseiro is the new Super Eagles head coach.

This is so embarrassing. More so, Am not against Paseiro but am not comfortable with his record. I will prepare Finidi to Paseiro. Fingers crossed. God bless Nigeria!!!

WHAT A BIG SHAME FOR A BIG COUNTRY LIKE NIGERIA TO BE ANNOUNCING THEIR SUBSTANTIVE COACH FOR THEIR SENIOR NATIONAL TEAM TODAY. WHEN OVER 99% OF THE WORLD SENIOR NATIONAL CURRENTLY WITH THEIR SUBSTANTIVE COACHES FOR PAST HALF A YEAR AGO.
WE SUPPOSED TO BE A ROLE MODEL FOR OTHER COUNTRIES TO EMULATE. BUT IT IS A PITY THAT WE LACK QUICK ADMINISTRATIVE PLANNING. LESS THAN A MONTH AFTER AFCON FAILURE, CAMEROON, IVORY COAST, BURKINA-FASO ANNOUNCED A NEW SUBSTANTIVE COACHES FOR THEIR NATIONAL TEAM WITHOUT WASTING TIME AND BEGIN TO PREPARE FOR NEW CHALLENGES BY PLAY WORLD CUP PLAY-OFF(Cameroon) AND GRADE-A FRIENDLY MATCHES AGAINST FRANCE, ENGLAND. BUT WE NIGERIA, WE KEEP TELLING COACHES TO BE SUBMITTING APPLICATIONS AND DOING INTERVIEW. WE LIKE TO BE WASTING TIME IN MAKING DECISION.
THE SAME THING IS HAPPENING IN OUR POLITICS. WE CAN IMAGINE, ASPIRANTS KEEPING BUYING PRESIDENTIAL FORM WITHOUT EVEN KNOWING DATE FOR PRIMARY ELECTION.
GOD WILL HELP US IN THIS COUNTRY.
      ### NIGERIA WAKE UP, 2023 ELECTION IS AROUND THE CORNER. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. WE NEED TO VOTE WISELY AND ACT FRANKLY. ### THE FUTURE OF CHILDREN IS AT STAKES. No work for graduate, Economy devastated, killing everyday, everywhere.

We have started again this is how pressurise the nff in appointing Eguavoen and when he failed woefully we shifted the blame to nff, how is finidi preferable to peseiro who have not even started the job? What wonders has finidi done with enyimba?pls let’s give the man the benefit of doubt

  • Golden Child 2 years ago

I thinks as fans, we should support him , at least for now.

  • Let’s hope it turn out well this time.

    Welcome new coach.

Please, invite best legs for the two friendlies. You may include four very good players from NPL.

Nigerians understand no other language when it comes to football than Win. Nigerian don’t care if it’s friendly or competition. Nigerian football fans always want to here that you win the match. The earlier you know this and abide by it the fast you get to Nigeria football fans good book.

I wish you the best of luck.

    God bless Nigeria.

That was the mistake and the reason we are not going to Qatar, the retaining of 4.2.4 Augustine Eguavoen.
We were primed on winning the Afcon,it was our tournament but for the sacking of Rohr and bizarre appointment of Augustine Eguavoen,we were doomed thereafter, wish it was Peseiro that succeeded Rohr perhaps things could have happened differently,we may not be in this precarious position we found ourselves today.
Meanwhile, look at this almans qualifications.I wondered why Nigerians think he’s not good enough to thinker the super eagles,of course he’s.
Congratulations!Mr Peseiro may your time with us bring us many trophies.

    • Golden Child 2 years ago

Are you minding Nigerians, the man was assistant coach at mighty Real Madrid,
Coached Porto,Braga,Sporting CP and AL hilal and they are still moaning.the other candidates haven’t faired any better. What has cocu achieved and where has he coached? If not Psv , derby county & fernabache . Only Laurent blanc probably has a better profile than him.

Besides, Peseiro has experience in the African terrain with Al hilal. Let us just hope for the best.

Appointment is “with immediate effect,”yet contract papers have not been signed, I hope the guy is smart and not let the NFF eat his money. He must not be a mumu like Rohr!

  • Ako AMADI 2 years ago

Peseiro and Finidi should make a good pair, since the latter is fluent in Spanish, a sister language to Portuguese.Salisu will cause problems if demoted. The NFF is simply asking for trouble!

  • Tristan 2 years ago

Well, in the universe of coaches he wouldn’t be my choice, but he’s the best that Nigeria can afford.
Those who look down on his international experience and record should take note that CONMEBOL is the strongest and most competitive of FIFA confederations.
That Peseiro’s record with Venezuela in CONMEBOL was nothing to shout about should be understood within this context as well as Venezuela’s traditional poor record against South American heavyweights, like Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, colombia, Peru, all ranked above Nigeria by FIFA.
In short, if Nigeria was in CONMEBOL we would never qualify for the world cup.

Bunch of Clowns calling themselves president, Governors, senators, Ministers, football administrators etc causing Confusions everywhere in Nigeria because the ” Nigeria Youths Never ready” to end the suffering and misery in our great country called “Nigeria”. The Nigeria youths are still busy fighting and Campaigning for these old fools/clowns for small money they can get for now instead of chasing these clowns away and build a better Nigeria for all and our future generations. For that the confusion continues

    • Running round in circles. What stopped the NFF from appointing him the first time. You failed in afcon and world cup before going back for him. And that coach too be plumber for accepting to come back after what happened. He doesn’t have any job. Which kind contry be dis? Shithole football nation…lol

Look at this bastard who is your present coach? Has the GFA named a permanent coach yet? All this animals I don’t know why complete sports will allow you idiots the liberty to come and be spreading falsehood here. Yaw make God punish you there. You useless tiny country is yet to name a permanent coach and you come here talking trash on what doesn’t concern you. Pray that you don’t fall into the hands of a strong headed Nigeria and talk trash to see if you’ll not receive the beating of your life. These black dirty pigs!!!

        • Look at this fool called Chima. Your barbarism ends at the borders of that animal kingdom called Nigeria…idiot! The Ghana coach is Otto Addo, assistant by Boateng, Didi Dramani and Olele with Chris as the technical adviser. The perfect mix which kicked your stupid asses out of the word cup…kwasiato! Did your useless papa establish complete for you to order them to take someone down…you loser! I will continue to abuse you till you learn some sense…gyimi. is it not true that Nigeria is running round in circles? If that man was good enough, why didn’t you appoint him the first time and waited till disaster struck before. The right thinking Nigerians will agree this is a legitimate question. But you have a good point, it’s none of my business but just like people like you hate Ghanaians, we also rejoice anytime your nff take a bad decision. It will make you suffer more pain…lol. what I can see here is you settled for a cheaper option and someone you can control. You brag about having money but can’t hire a top notch coach. You go suffer more than this. You will come face to face with boko haram this morning. Stupid chimp…lol

          • Kwasia! Your useless mother must go. Did your useless father have even a table top gari business for you to come here and order people? You idiot. You fool pass the word fool. We don’t need to pay dortmund a dime. We dey use our sense unlike you. Look at you calling ghana useless. Are you not an armed robber living in kasoa?…gyimi from that animal Kingdom. Your wife sef be ashawo for circle…lol

Ghanaians are lazy people but what to enjoy free money that is why they always act negative at the mention of Almighty Nigeria. Cheap freaks most especially the men sitting back and wait for the women to help them make money. Rubbish disgusting people that can not stand the progress of hardworking Nigerians. Continuing fooling  the so called Kasoa slum that you live must very hot for you that is why your brain alongside Selfmadeslave can not function well again. Of all place Kasoa is where you live no wonder you’re so naive about the Nigerians in developed areas. The reason I decided to have your time is because I know what Nigerians go through lazy people like you on a daily basis out of jealousy.
