Okechukwu Dropped From Basaksehir Europa League Squad

Turkish club, İstanbul Basaksehir have surprisingly dropped Nigerian midfielder, Azubuike Okechukwu from their new official squad for the rest of their Europa League campaign, Completesports.com.

Okechukwu plays for Basaksehir on loan from Egyptian club, Pyramids FC and he played his part as they won this season’s Turkish Super Lig title late last month.

The UEFA Europa League contenders were each permitted to register up to three new eligible A list players by midnight on Monday, 3 August with a couple of caveats.

UEFA also said that each squad was still limited to 25 List A players (players could be removed to make room).

Players must have been already registered and eligible to play for the club at domestic level since 3 February or in any case by no later than before the first leg of the round of 16 as initially scheduled for the relevant team.

Okechukwu met all of these requirements but a check on the official website of UEFA revealed the midfielder has been omitted from Basaksehir’s official squad for the Europa League.
