  • According to the footnote of the article above, “The centre-back is expected to be named in Nigeria’s squad to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.”

However, is Omeruo expected to be start ahead of Balogun who has barely tasted league action this season, let alone be named in any team of the week?

In fact, with the amount of time Balogun has been missing in match-day squads altogether, I will be surprised if he made the “bench of the week” at any point this season”.

Still, he is expected to start ahead of Omeruo in Egypt.

Eish…@deo. Even though Kenneth is in a prodigiously tantalizing form in Spain now ehn….something tells me we will still be seeing our oyinbo wall in Egypt o. I was also having that feeling that Omeruo has done enough to seal his place in the heart of the eagles’ defence at afcon until I saw the last to matches the eagles played in asaba. Boss…..form is temporary, class is permanent. The level of intelligence balogun brings into the art of defending Sir, Omeruo go reach like 30yrs of age before in get am (nor be joke…lol). Every central defensive pairing in football as it is played today needs a beauty and a beast. Not two beauties or two beasts. God bless late Keshi in his hey days…..the elegance those once bring into the art of being a central defender can make you loose your girlfriend…(truth to god…! Lolz)

Deo, as Dr Drey mentioned, dropping Balogun will be tough, because of his Nigeria form. He may not be making BENCH OF THE WEEK anytime soon (that was hilarious, BTW), but he always shows up in Naija colours. My compromise is to play 3 center backs in a 2-5-3 or 3-4-3 formation. After all, we are at our strongest defensively when we play 3 center backs.

  • You are a confusionist!

    • And you are bloody confused, mate.

Sometimes I love your anger and how you spank The he goat called Tayo. Next time @Tayo make your point without been stupid. @Deo I’m with you Ken deserves a spot in reality after all it’s not a crime if we have a good bench as starting eleven so mr balogun on the bench is not a bad idea oyinbo wall or not

Balogun will still get the nod ahead of omeruo, He has couple of things omeruo does not have…
He covers quickly, he his always off his mark and can close down on any striker..

Look at what he did against Egypt in that friendly coming out of no where to save Eagles omeruo cannot be that fast to clear that ball.
Also he his a player that can convert corner kicks by heading into the net, he also start play from back and overlap to an extent just like sergio ramos

I’m more comfortable with Balogun in the central defence than Omeruo who is in form but the game against Egypt Balogun exhibited high level of professionalism.
In Egypt we need defenders who are thorough and makes minimal mistakes even under pressure.
I don’t trust Omeruo. In similar situation Messi wouldn’t have scored if it was him and Balogun one on one.

Bro I like ur post and your faith in Balogun but truth be told he is intelligent and skillful but definitely not quick. As regards to stopping messi 1v1 dat wan no folo ooo my broda. U remember wetin messi do Boateng for champions league? Is Balogun better than Boateng? Recently u see how him shred Man United defense that comprised Jones and dat other guy (I can’t recall his name), messi ran them ragged dat day (2nd leg). You guys are right the coach will most likely play Balogun and Ekong but if form is d watch weird then d pairing should be omeruo and ekong. I think against certain teams the coach should play 3 @ d back with Ekong-omeruo-balogun and change formation depending on how d game is going.

I think Rohr would accommodate three at the back,he wont bench Omeruo because of his stellar performances for Leganes. In Egypt we would adopt a 3.5.2 formation with a midfielder playing as the right wing back possibly Uche Kalu should he recovers in time.
Ndidi,Mikel and Etebor will occupy the midfield to act as providers for Musa and Ighalo.

    • Bro Jensen,

“Kenneth Omeruo cannot be that fast to clear the ball”

But that is exactly what he did in the la Liga game vs Celta Vigo last Saturday.

Watch the video of the highlights, fast forward to one minute of the video, and watch

  • I guess there is something to be said for the chemistry, understanding and synergy that exists between Balogun and Ekong so much so that to break up that partnership just because a fit Balogun is not playing regular club football may not be expedient.

I will like to go back to the sole subject of the article and celebrate with Omeruo.

A defender who is living well up to his Under 17 promise to do himself, his family, his community and his country proud.

I still remember that powerful dash and near-post stunning header he scored against Germany in Under 17 football in 2009.

Indeed, he is sure to go to Egypt and will no doubt do well whenever he is called upon.

    Kenneth Omeruo, I salute you.
