Omeruo Named Man Of The Match In Super Eagles Win Vs Guinea

Goal scorer, Kenneth Omeruo, picked the man of the match honour following his superlative display in the Super Eagles’ hard-fought 1-0 win against the Syli Nationale of Guinea – an AFCON 2019 Group B match at the Alexandria Stadium on Wednesday, Completesports.com reports.

Omeruo netted the winning goal for the three-time African champions in the 73rd minute.

It was his first goal in 45 appearances for the Super Eagles.

The 25-year-old defender who paired Leon Balogun at the heart of Nigeria’s defence, played a crucial role in ensuring that the Super Eagles kept a clean sheet for the second consecutive game in the competition.

Omeruo is the second Nigerian player to win the award at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt after Wilfred Ndidi scooped the honour in the side’s first game against the Swallows of Burundi.

Gernot Rohr’s charges booked a spot in the Round of 16 following the win, the first country to achieve the defeat in the competition.

The former champions will face the Barea of Madagascar in their next Group B game on Sunday, June 30, at the Alexandria Stadium. Kickoff is 5pm Nigerian time.
