Onazi: I Failed To Sign For Chelsea Because Of My Age

Super Eagles midfielder, Ogenyi Onazi has revealed that his inability to sign for Chelsea was because he has failed to attain the age of 18.

Recall that Onazi joined Lazio in 2011 following appearances at the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup, in which Nigeria reached the final on home soil, losing to Switzerland.

However, in a chat with Ajansspor, the Nigerian international stated that he had trial with the Blues but because he was underage the whole process failed to materialised.

“When I was young, I almost signed for Chelsea, but we were underage and couldn’t play.

“We had to wait until we were 18. There was a lot of process.

“That is why my manager decided that we would go to Italy at that time. So he could start in Lazio’s second team and then, when he developed, he could start in the first team.”

Onazi had an incomplete career with the SE, I remember the World Cup performance he gave under late Keshi what a player but shockingly he just fizzled out.

Honestly I don’t know what is wrong with the present coach n nff corruption ehh it’s well year in year out we use to have in abundance quality midfielders to choose from all with there different unique style of football but now all we have is average midfielders no disrespect for iwobi n co,but if u remember Friday ekpo, etim esin, sam okwaraji,Thomson oliha,JJ okocha,Wilson oruma, justice Christopher,d kalus,Mikel,Christian obodo,Joel obi, ogenyi onazi ,Sunday oliseh etc u will understand that except ndidi all other current once r average

Mikel and Jay Jay were players that always kept our midfield alive no matter the opposition and kill of small teams unlike today that average teams like Lesotho and Sierra Leone will nicking a point from us. Average Coach is causing us disharm as well because Peseiro doesn’t encourage skilful players.

  • Na lie! Age caught up with him.
