O’Neill In Fresh Clarets Loan Exit

Aiden O’Neill is departing Burnley for a second season-long loan spell with his hometown club Brisbane Roar in Australia’s A-League. The 20-year-old Australia Under-23 international starlet, who moved to Turf Moor from youth side Brisbane Athletic in 2016 and has made five first-team appearances for the Clarets, moved to Central Coast Mariners 12 months ago.

O’Neill, who scored four goals in 23 appearances for the Mariners, is now looking forward to returning Down Under where he will play under former Liverpool and England striker Robbie Fowler, who is coach of the Roar. He told the Lancashire Telegraph: “Last season I got to play in front of my family which was a big part of the decision for me to come to Australia on loan.

“To be back in my home city and be able to play in front of my family and friends means a lot to me.” O’Neill added: “I’m really excited to get started in Brisbane. “It’s a great opportunity to play under Robbie, who had such an immense career. “He called me and told me about his plans for the club and it was something I was really excited to be involved in.”
