Onuachu Is New Super Eagles Goal Machine – Fashanu

Former England international. John Fashanu has tagged Super Eagles striker, Paul Onuachu as a goal machine due to his blistering goal-scoring form for both club and country.

Onuachu was at his best mettle as he grabbed another goal in Super Eagles 3-0 win over Lesotho in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier a few days after netting the winning goal in Porto-Novo against the Squirrels of Benin to end their 8-year unbeaten home record.

Reacting to his goal-scoring form, Fashanu told Punch in a chat that the Genk striker has nothing to prove again after scoring two goals in two games consecutively.

He noted that Nigeria can have a successful team if the right players are selected by Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr.

“I am happy that Onuachu was able to score on both occasions he was introduced into both games; it was wonderful because the end justifies the means. I remember when I said he was a great player and that he was the player that we needed and now I was right. I think everybody else has seen how football has to be understood at the right level,” Fashanu said.

“I want to tell Onuachu well done and a big congratulation because he has proved to everybody that he is still number one and indeed a goal king. Let’s just try to say we are not trying to prove anybody wrong but that we can have a successful team with the right players.”

I will want the coach to continue with introducing Onuachu at the second half of games, this winning team and trend should be maintained except a dip in form from some players. Let Onuachu and Aribo be super subs most especially against African countries. For now lets calm the hypes and maintain focus towards the real assignment after qualification, Eagles are back and flying high.

  • It’s just that sometimes our emotion-driven fellows do things and trigger us to the point of digging the files of this nigerian players including this young man and it sometimes look as if we hate them.

Although we all know some of us are more of a player fan than the national team but that shouldn’t be the case, if we behave ourselves and stop this act of urging the coach to invite this one or that one just bcos we’re directly/indirectly benefiting from them, none of us would ever speak negatively against any nigerian player.

Bringing up names and in the process we try to condem others(nigerian players) as if they aren’t nigerians too makes the “REAL” SE fan unhappy.

Regulars on this forum can bear me witness that time without number i keep saying this.

I personally love all nigerian players and i always pray in my heart they don’t fumble when watching them in their various clubs.

Sometimes they do erros in their clubs but for the fact of being fellow country-man we ignor and play aloof.

I personally do pray and hope this young man (ONUACHU) break that long standing record of 30goals in Belgium.

Let’s stop the hype and allow our boys to get to their potentials in soccer world.

If seems you need some medical attention!!.. football no bi war!!

    • Eldridge Cleaver 3 years ago

No vex Chima, Steve and Glory. One love to my people. Indeed, football no be war….

  • Please dont make me laugh. Goal machine really!! Maybe for genk in Belgium but not for the Super Eagles, not yet at least. Two goals in two games against Lesotho and benin doesn’t give him that tag, he needs to do it every time or at least consistently and not just against minnows but also against big teams as well then , can we say he is super eagles goal machine.

    • Dr. Drey 3 years ago

If Onuachu is SE goal machine….what should we call Victor Osimhen…..? Goal Keke….?? or Goal Danfo….?? LMAO

      • Eldridge Cleaver 3 years ago

Dr Drey you disappoint me. Onuachu is not only a goals machine, he is also a Natural Footballer who can play all positions. Left back, right back or even centre midfield. Because of his height, don’t be suprised if Onuachu replaces Maduka Okoye in goal for our next match.

        • Dr. Drey 3 years ago

Hahahaha….Onuachu also has good ball control and stamina….our oga that played video games to the highest level can help us design another formation that can help us utilize Onuachu to pair francis Uzoho in defensive midfield for the future…..lmao….based on what we have on ground….LMAO. Afterall there’s nothing like natural positions in football. All players can adjust to play every role/position on the pitch to perfection….LMAO

If person tell you say you no get sense, you go feel say dem “insult” you.

Reread what you wrote and ask yourself if this makes any sense.

        • Dr. Drey 3 years ago

Na you wey dey impersonate me come get sense….See this fool….LMAO. Even in the impersonation task you’ve failed woefully…..LMAO….everybody now knows you to be a fake…LMAO. Pele Larry, keep displaying the stupidity and low intelligence quotient passed unto you by your fore-fathers….LMAO.

Even presently, With regards to national team, Onuachu will be humble enough to tell Osimene. Carry go, na you biko. Osimene is the Pump Action while Onuachu is the groundnut( bullet). Wasn’t any different from what Rohr said some weeks ago that Onuachu remains his No. 2, that he was only going to try out other options hence leaving him on the standby list.

Oh boy u be rapper? u need to link up with Kao Denero the Sierra Leonean rapper. @Chima I’m with you on this one, against african teams Aribo should be a half substitute, as for Onuachu he has done well, but let’s chill on the hyping for now, let’s see what sadiq and Awoniyi too can offer.Just my opinion.

    • Mr Hush 3 years ago

      Exactly..

Onuachu has done well for himself and Nigeria in these past two games. He has won himself further invitation, barring any drop in form in the clubside; but my jury is still out on him.

Want to see if he can do better than what he did at the last Afcon when he was given the starting berth over Ighalo.

Based on precedence; I believe Osimhen ,Iheanacho and Sadiq; yeah! Sadiq. Though years back, the latter did fantastically well at representing us at the Olympics. And from all observations,he is a much more improved player than then. I just can’t wait to see him in the Eagles.

That said, I appreciate the fact that Onuachu is delivery presently. My believe in him is growing. Hopefully,he continues to do good to shut down any critic in me or out there. They say, little by little makes alot. Hopefully, He can only get better.
At the end of the day,if all of our strike force are firing. It is Nigeria’s gain.

@ Hush, truth is, we all must understand the Gaffer we have.Except something we don’t pray to be, happens to any of these three; Osimene, Nacho, Onuachu yeah, Umar, Moffi, Awoniyi may have knocked themselves outta contention. Rohr is one that thrives on loyalty. Onuachu that was on the fringe, helping to turn the tide of majority opinions in favour of Rohr as a worthy manager. I honestly don’t think Rohr will cast that in the mud so easily. So bad Umar missed the opportunity to show everyone what he can do. Will honestly want to have all four of them; Osimene, definitely the No1 contender, Nacho, Onuachu, n Sadiq.

        • Mr Hush 3 years ago

          @ Glory

          You’re right about Rohr’s loyalty.

But he is one loyal to form as well. The more reason Onuachu and Onyekuru made the standby list at the first place. Form.
I believe if Umar keeps up his form, he would be called up for the next internationals.
There’s still a long road till then; anything can happen.
Just glad we got a wide pool to pick from; Osimhen, Iheanacho, Onuachu, Umar, Moffi, Awoniyi, Maja , Mukairu, Ugbo not forgetting Dessers.
For what’s worth, Nigeria seem to have hit gold in the striking dept.

          • GLORY 3 years ago

Very true @ Hush. Rohr looking much the envy of most African national team managers at the moment. He truly deserves it anyway, for set the tone by encouraging performance driven invitation instead of percentage share. Lolzz.

Think Onuachu can be like Rashidi Yekini if he proves at any match with scoring in every match goal or goal this speculation will happen if Iwobi or Iheanchu or Osimhen assist him with proper passes or Chukwueze or Ahmed Musa or Samuel Kalu or Onyekuru with high crosses to hit with head, these factors or assists can make him (Onuachu) new Rashidi Yekini…
