Onuachu On Target Again As Super Eagles End AFCON Qualifiers Unbeaten

Paul Onuachu was on target for the second consecutive game as the Super Eagles finished their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a 3-0 home win against Lesotho on Tuesday, reports Completesports.com.

Napoli forward Victor Osimhen and Oghenekaro Etebo scored the other goals for the three-time African champions.

Gernot Rohr’s charges started the game brightly moving the ball around with confidence.

Osimhen had the first real chance of the game but his shot from outside the box in the eighth minute failed to hit target.

Alex Iwobi came close with an effort four minutes later.

Osimhen finally broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute after latching on to a fine pass from Wilfred Ndidi.

Francis Uzoho produced a fine save to deny the visitors from a free-kick a minute before the half hour mark.

The hosts dominated the early exchanges after the break with Iwobi having a shot saved by Lesotho goalkeeper.

Etebo added the second goal five minutes after the break after he was set up by Osimh

Substitute Onuachu scored Nigeria’s third with a fine strike following a well laid pass from Henry Onyekuru.

The Super Eagles finished top of Group L with 14 points from six games.

I think Umar Sadiq has had the worst week of any players who didn’t make it to these qualifiers. I think Almeria’s decision to stop him from travelling has badly affected his chances of making it into the team. I always felt he was better suited to the Super Eagles’ style of play than Paul Onuachu, who’s a big presence in the box but hardly contributes to the build up play.

Paul was called up in his place, and has now scored good goals in both matches. Congrats to him for taking the opportunity.

With covid still rife, only God knows when Rohr will get d opportunity of friendly matches to see Sadiq up close; and even if he does, I wonder what he’ll have to do to displace guys who are already embedded in the side. What Almeria did was really wrong; the world cup is next year and they did this.

When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but THE MAN, he said unto Him, PAUL, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?

    John 8:10

Onuachu, as always the best way to silence online herdsmen is to keep doing your thing with zero apologies. A man God has blessed with such natural gifts needs not struggle with crass educated illiterates whose only bidding is to pull another down because of bread.

Again, that Nigeria qualified is out of share determination of the players. Rohr does not deserve to coach such a bunch of plentiful talent.

Hahahahahaha….”….that Nigeria qualified is out of share determination of the players….”…LMAO. What stupidity….LMAO.

The last 2 times we qualified to major tournaments, also with games to spare too were sheer determination of the boys….LMAO. The times when your overated incompetent guadiolas missed 3 AFCONs in 5 years there was no determination then…LMAO. Weldone Larry. You have tried. You have always shown you have low IQ and you haven’t disappointed. Now switch back to your name….your low intelligence quotient is already giving you away badly as a shameless impostor……LMAO. Na smell of piss we dey take know when he-goat pass….LMAO. You even remembered to add the dot in front of the Dr today so it will look exactly like it was me that commented…..LMAO. Bloody coward. Congratulations on your failure once more.

Onuachu for nor score na….Sadiq and standby list gleefully awaits him…LMAO. I thought they said we have to alter our style and only play crosses for 90 minutes for him to score…..LMAO. My man see Sadiq for in back he suddenly know where goalpost dey for pitch…..LMAO
      .
      .

I love that your scriptural quote…….it speaks so much to bunch of riff raffs like you who have tried (but failed woefully) to rubbish the good works of such a great manger we have….LMAO

“…When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but THE MAN, he said unto Him, ROHR, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? And Rohr answereth, suffer me not to talk back at thee master, for whence all my accusers are now down with COVID-25 after thou art prepareth a table before me in their presence….now they choke even unto death, for they find not anything to hold against me anymore…..LMAOOOoooo

The way you have all gone dumb these past few days is so heartwarming…..LMAO. Nothing to accuse him of again, it is now sheer determination of the players….LMAO. Common sense is indeed not common….I still dey laugh Ooooo…..LMAO

sometimes i wonder if it is the same ball that i watched that this reporters also watches or see …. was it Ndidi that gave osimehn the pass or kelechi? when you want to report be sure of you are doing …. not giving usfake us all the time …. the guy that will do the rating now will come and score iwobi and chukwueze 7 or 8 when we know that they are just below 6 ….. congrat to you onuachu am happy for you , the rejected stone …

  • Greenturf 3 years ago

Super eagles suffered a bit from their usual flow due to a change in tactics to accommodate Iheanacho in the starting lineup.
Normally Iwobi plays that role and has flourished making it his own until this international break.Iheanacho should return to the bench. We should play Iwobi behind Osimhen.Chukwueze needs not start games for the super eagles I can hardly see any quality from his play.Opponents finds it easy playing against him and we may not win against strong opposition with Chukwueze in the starting lineup.I know Simon Moses and Kalu Uche could play from the right as they are naturally right footed besides it’s not a strange position, because they have played on the right in there days with Gent in the Belgian Jupiler.
I would love to see Simon on the left Kalu right,Iwobi behind Osimhen.I think this format would best suit the super eagles that’s my opinion though I could be wrong.

Am happy for onuachu, am happy for super eagles another striker has now been added to the team, I was against onuachu but thank God he has added to the team quality, all the same is not Everytime you have such opportunity, if Umar Sadiq had come, it may have been different story. That was a quality goal

    • Greenturf 3 years ago

It’s fate mate.In life there are events outside our control, and fate do decide our course.
What will be will be.Its not meant to be the reason Sadiq Umar couldn’t turn up.Its Paul’s destiny it’s bound to happen.

    • Dr. Drey 3 years ago

Hahahahaha. Tit for tat. They arrived at the stadium ready for the game only for S/L officials to come and “arrest” 5 key players in bizzare fashion for testing positive to COVID 19. Life na turn-by-turn. LMAO

That’s the law of Karma working against Benin so fast, I pray they don’t qualify for this AFCON based on what they did to Iwobi

  • Kingsley 3 years ago

Dem no go show up. Next thing you go hear, it was against lesotho

  • It seems chukwueze is getting too comfortable on the right wing, it may be due to the fact that no one is really challenging him in that position. Hmmm all that could change in no time. I really like him, his style of play is a joy to watch but when nothing comes out of it then it can be very disappointing. I will suggest coach rohr should try someone else in that position, let chukwueze know he is not indispensable, when he starts two or three games on the bench watching the fans cheer someone else’s name he will improve his game whenever he gets the chance to play.
If or when the likes of olise and ademola joins the team then the coach will be able to try the new players in different positions and if chukwueze keeps playing with no end product then he may have to surrender his position to someone else that could do better.

    • JimmyBall 3 years ago

@Sportsfan exactly… Very objective talk from you. This is senior team football o, not age grade… imagine playing that beautiful nonsense in a competition like Afcon or World cup where margin for plays without end-product is really frustrating especially when trailing… of all the players we have… Only Ndidi and Balogun are actually showing worldclass status with their businesslike approach and focus. Others can copy…

  • Chima E Samuels 3 years ago

CS have a theory against Iheanacho by continuing to give his assist to Osimhen to Ndidi. Seniorman them don start again o.
