Onyekuru Eager To Add AFCON Title To Trophy Feats With Galatasaray

Super Eagles forward Henry Onyekuru hopes to cap a remarkable season by winning the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt with Nigeria, Completesports.com reports.

Onyekuru won the Turkish Super Lig and FA Cup titles during his one-year loan spell with Galatasaray in the recently concluded season.

The former KAS Eupen of Belgium player, barring any unforseen circumstances, is expected to be named in Nigeria’s 23-man squad for the AFCON 2019 finals in Egypt.

It will be the first time the 21-year-old is appearing in the competition and he is determined to make it a memorable experience by winning the ultimate prize with the Super Eagles.

“This has been a wonderful season for me. I won the League and FA Cup titles with Galatasaray and it cannot get any better than this, ” Onyekuru told Completesports.com.

“Now, my focus is winning the AFCON title with my country which will make the season a great one for me.

Onyekuru scored 14 goals in 31 league appearances for Galatasaray in the 2018-19 season.

He netted the winning goal that earned Fathi Terim’s team their 22nd league title against Istanbul Basaksehir.

The forward has been linked with a move to German Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and a host of other European clubs.

The Super Eagles will begin their quest for a fourth AFCON title against debutants Burundi on June 21.

    Nice one dude

  • Onyekuru is poised for a showdown in Egypt as he looks to be one of the informed Eagles’forwards to take on the rest of the continent. Basking in the euphoria of his remarkable achievements with his team Galatasaray in his debut season in Turkey and riding on the crest of such successes the great Henry looks forward to replicating this form in SE colours as hostility begins in the coming days.
Following the trajectory of his career in the last 3yrs when he first announced himself with Eupen from the lower division and then in the elite division with 18 league goals, the little pacy winger has not taken his foot off the pedal as he continues to throttle with goals season in season out.
With the heart of a lion, Henry like the proverbial small but mighty has ignored his little frame to bound across the field with such abounding pace, skillset and frenetic energy to the delight of his admirers.
He is surely a delight to watch anyday.
On the strength of his form, he should get a nod to start ahead of Iwobi in the a three gang attack formation which should include Musa and Ighalo.

You are right pal onyekuru is truly super talented and he has proved that even at a worst position on the pitch he would always find the back of the net. But it is for this our mad coach called gernot rohr to start him ahead of Samuel kalu,Moses Simon and Alex iwobi, a talented player like Henry onyekuru should be paired with musa and ighalo upfront so that there will be hordes of goals for Nigeria but this so called gernot rohr will always start Samuel kalu even when the player is playing at the worst form sometimes well he is already coach of super eagles so I won’t complain further cause that won’t change anything still the same I wish the super eagles and Henry onyekuru the best go for glory and make us proud

  • Some of u lack respect because he is your favorite player and you want the coach to play him of already established player in the team is why you called someone as old as your father ‘mad’ nawa oo. I think you can apply for the job if you feel u can do better than the man.
