Onyekuru Nets Winner As Galatasaray Beat Istanbul Basaksehir To Win Turkish League Title

Henry Onyekuru scored the winning goal as Galatasaray defeated Istanbul Basaksehir 2-1 to win the Turkish Super Lig title on Sunday, reports Completesports.com.

It was the 22nd time Fathi Terim’s men will be clinching the title.

They have now completed the double having defeated Akhisarspor 3-1 in the final of the Turkish Cup this week.

Istanbul Basaksehir took the lead in the 17th minute through Rijad Bajic
following a pass from Eljaero Elia.

Galatasaray however rallied back in the second half with Algerian midfielder Sofiane Feghouli grabbing the equaliser two minutes after the break.

Onyekuru got the decisive second goal for his side in the 64th minute.

It was Onyekuru’s 14th goal in 30 league appearances for Galatasaray this season.

The forward is on loan at the club from English Premier League outfit, Everton.

Am very happy with this development from our players.

And from the list of players invited by Mr Rohr they are all doing fine for their clubs eg, Henry winning d league with Gala, Onuachu winning a trophy with is club, Musa named in Suadi IX of year, Osimhen named the best player for his club, Collins graduating with his club to Bundesliga, Iwobi in Eupropa league Final and soo on. I thank God for this development from our players this 2018/2019 season and for all this players to be call up for Afcon 2019 camp this year Afcon we shall soar higher. Amen

      Alamin.
You are very correct. It only bodes well for the entire team. It will sure increase their confidence and self belief going into the afcon.

Batholomew Ogbeche is doing well in India while Ganiyu Oseni is doing well for Hà Nội FC in the V.League in Vietnam.
      Our players are truly blessed.

        • Thanks @Adewuyi. I like the way you give more perspective to things.
Kudos to those players, afterall dey are also Nigerians.

      • Dr. Drey 5 years ago

…even kanu nwankwo and garba lawal are still playing. They both scored in the testimonial match against African XI played to honour Ambode last week. They are Nigerians too and should still be given a chance in the super eagles…..afterall, the SE is for everybody.

        • Adewuyi Olaosenikan 5 years ago

But those ones have retired, sir.

        • Dr. Drey 5 years ago

Yea…but they’ve still got it in them. We have to call them out of retirement they way Cameroon called Roger Milla out of retirement at Italia 90 and he became the star of that world cup. If you can be clamouring for the likes of Egbedi, Ganiyu Oseni, Uchebo and the likes, then i think including the likes of kanu and Garba lawal in that list isnt a crime. Abi, is the SE not everybody’s property again…?

        • Simon 5 years ago

CEO Ndiara and brothers. Nwa what is your problem are you saying Oseni is not a footballer and i bet you Oseni has a medal with the national team but your Yakubu Ighalo has Zero title with Nigeria and club because he can never be relied on to win titles he is a below averge star. Nwa go back to your bush because you spit your dirty mouth odour here. Imbecile

        • Pompei 5 years ago

Even sef, Mr. Ibu of Nollywood na confirmed baller.Never mind his big stomach. The guy sabi play ball. And Okey Bakassi too…..he is a deadly striker. Rohr should consider these guys…hehehehe. Chai!

      • Lol… @Adewuyi Olaosenikan Please let us be professional here we talk of level of play Nigeria is trying to conquer the world Clamoring for the likes of Uchebo and all is not what we need to doing that is destructive more than anything. The same Uchebo that couldn’t find a club side in Europe???, Look at what Russia did to Saudi Arabia in the World Cup, 5-0, I give this result as an example because All of Russia players ply their trade in Russia and all of Saudi Arabian players play in Saudi. That result is a direct reflection of the difference in quality of those 2 leagues and Saudi Arabia league is way ahead of the Vietnam and India, mind you Vietnam and India can’t even make qualification. There is no way you can include players languishing in these leagues ahead of players plying their trade in the top world class leagues in the world. thank you enough said

Onyekuru, Kalu and Chukwueze will be important players for the SuperEagles in Egypt and beyond. All three are also eligible for the DreamTeam that looks like the real DreamTeam of 96. Based on the quality of call ups by Rohr, the likes of Musa, Simon including Iheanacho will have to work their sucks off to displace any of them in the present SuperEagles.

Onuachu, Osimhen and Ighalo(42 goals and counting between them)will most likely be our strikers for this AFCON. in all honesty I don’t see Kelechi displacing any the three strikers on current form. Unless the gaffer go for experience and or fitness concerns. I think one of Iheanacho and Simon may be dropped and possibly one defender.

I haven’t seen a more competitive squad in a very long time. This is why I’m tipping the SuperEagles to win this cup or at least play in the final. We don’t have to depend on one player to score all or most of our goals. Anyone in the squad can be devastatingly effective in front of goal. #FLY LIKE AN EAGLE INTO THE FUTURE# AFCON spirit loading…….

  • Oakfield 5 years ago

Good news. I’m so happy for this dude. Everton almost frustrated his career with work permit wahala but he was able to think fast and got a lifeline. Kelechi should do same to save his nosediving career.

    • And I think by now u know dat Everton did no frustration job on d young man. There are rules dat Everton don’t control,if Henry ddnt even mek d final list to WCup but med d penultimate list, dat wud trigger a clause in d rule book dat wud have med Everton easily convince govt/FA on d work-permit.
      Everton is clean.

  • Hah Complete Sports is it too much to describe briefly how our very own scored? Was it a header,a run and shot, you know a lil description won’t hurt na.

Great news, but MAKE NO MISTAKE ABOUT IT,the young man had always had that quality and that’s why Everton bought him.
It takes me back to a pain in that World-cup squad. Henry just returned from injury, but was very fit for the WCup.So precious he was to his then loan club-Anderlecht- dat dey selfishly kept him from playing matches close to d WCup so dat his country wud feel, he’s not fully fit ,all so dat dey can have him for anoda season on loan. Dis angered Henry so much dat he refused anoda loan wit dem and chose Galatasary instead.

My issue is dat d coach ought to have known d real gist about Henry, hor won’t you have d phone nmba of a regular player? It’s not so easy for African payers in Europe and here is a Nigerian on the books of Everton – it doesn’t happen everyday . Anderlecht knew dat if dey allow Henry to play he wud make d Nigerian provisional list. Making dat list alone(even if he doesn’t make d final list),is a sure creteria for Henry to get his work-permit.Everton was ready. Alas no list,no permit,Anderlecht happy, Everton sad. You see where I blame Mr Rohr?

It even became easier for Rohr to include him with d unfortunate Moses Simon’s injury, yet d coach turned a blind eye on a good player, who wud have improved our squad, who also needed d countries help to play in a top league like d English. Will playing in Everton not benefit us? Going out on loan,is risky business. Many of our players not doing well in loan teams,is not bcos dey are not gud enough, der are oda factors. We shudnt be quik to condemn dem.

It’s also not easy(for d heart) to go out on loan, when you know ur parent club really wants you.Everton wanted dis guy to play dis season, but their hands were tied by d rules.
We must commend dis man,Henry,he has a resilient heart- he picked up himself from wat Anderlecht and Nigeria did to him – and here he is,he’s been doing well in Turkey. What a young man, what toughness!
I just hope Mr Rohr has learnt lessons.
Today, Henry is laughing last. He dug dip and der is a way a player plays dat d coach wud even be under pressure to select him.
Work-permit issues will now be sorted out becos he has recently been fulfilling anoda criteria, by playing for his home nation.
Let me give Rohr kudos for dat. However, great effort Henry.

    • Oakfield 5 years ago

U know it was a very risky gamble to call up a player just freshly returning from a serious injury. The coach judged righly even though he (onyekuru) claimed he was fully fit.

      • It’s also risky to call up not one but two players now -Kalu,who’s just getting fit or even Ighalo who is just trying to return from injury right now.
@ Oakfield, Henry’s situation was not different from d above.
I think it was even better bcos he was fully fit earlier dan d two players just mentioned. So wat are we not saying?
Did u also read dat I said his name shud have at least com out in d provisional list?
So pls leave matters,Pep Guardiola,Mouroinho,Pochetinno dem, admit to making mistakes at times. Mr Rohr is no exception. No need to drag dis matter, I have expressed my expectation dat d coach has learned.

        • Ighalo and Omeruo have stated that they received minor knocks and were substituted. They are only expected to be out for two weeks. Hopefully Ighalo should be back in action by this weekend. Omeruo can rest until camp, so shouldn’t be a problem.

Kalu on the other hand is more long term and his situation is similar to Moses Simon who endured hamstring and thigh problems for months at the beginning of the season.

nothing wrong in calling Kalu up to assess his recovery.

he returned to action last week, coming off the bench and needs to be eased into playing. its left to be seen if he is able to reach the performance levels required.

We have adequate cover on the right wing, where he mostly operates. Sam Chukwueze is an exciting prospect there, Henry Onyekuru can also operate on the right wing as can Victor Osimhen, so there is no desperation to have him play.

However, of the 25 man roster, two to be dropped, it will not be a tragedy if he is dropped owing to injury. But the question is, would I take a gamble on Kalu or Iheanacho? Or drop them both?

          • Context is key sir. I didn’t start the issue of RISKY,I only mirrored it to prove d point you just did in ur post .

I know d injuries can be managed,I know. So dats not d point at all, in my post. The point is, Henry cud av been treated same way then, his case wasn’t so different from d players mentioned. It was a “risk” worth taking.

Pls let’s move on,like I said d coach shud av now learnt from dat, even I guess dats why he now has no qualms inviting players fresh from injuries.
            Cheers

  • Are u obsessed with giving someone a chance @ Dr Drey? If u are,Adewuyi just gave u a good reply.

I only congratulated dem for doing well over der,not as a re-commendation to SEagles. So wats wrong wit dat?Only current SEagles players shud be congratulated for gud performance at club level?Who does dat? Hor.

Even, these ones shinning in obscure leagues are often d reason why younger ones keep hope alive and sometimes land in clubs like Everton, Leicester City, etc. So whether dey make d national team(-who says dey can’t)or not dey are playing a significant part in helping d Nigerian brand.

If u are cautious dat giving such piple kudos might confuse Mr Rohr, well we shud think dat Rohr is more dan dat.
