‘Orban Can Guarantee 25 Goals In A Season’ —Gent Coach

Gent head coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck has said Nigerian striker, Gift Orban, can score 25 goals in all competitions in a season.

Orban netted four goals in Gent’s 6-2 win against Zulte-Waregem in the Belgian Jupiler on Sunday.

The 20-year-old has scored nine goals in the league and the Europa Conference League this term after only joining Gent in January 2023.

Orban became the third most expensive sale by Norwegian club Stabaek after his €3.5million transfer to Jupiler League club Gent in January.

And since his move to Gent from Norwegian club Stabaek, Orban has the best goal-game ratio in Europes’s top ten leagues.

“Last season he made 22 appearances across all competitions in Norway,” Vanhaezebrouck said per Voetbal Nieuws.

“If you let him start the season, he is a guarantee of 20, 25 goals across all competitions.

“Finishing is fun for him. Right, left, he doesn’t care.”

Orban will hope to add to his tally when Gent travel to Turkey to face Istanbul Basaksehir, in the Europa Conference round 16 second-leg.

  • Orban can play behind 2 strikers like a number 10 too……his finishing under pressure is excellent for a lad of his age……His free kick ability is also rare for an African player of his age…….If SE has 10 world class players who have all the qualities Orban has and who are playing in top5 leagues week in week out then I won’t be in a hurry for this lad to be integrated into SE……..But truth be told SE lacks killer instinct in our final third…… Osimhen and Lookman can not do all, they need very good shooters who can feed off from their hard work and forward player to finish incase we meet strong opposition who make things hard for Osimhen and Lookman…….At least start the process of integrating Orban into SE early to help him adapt to the team before the next major tournament……… National team is nobody’s personal property…… National team is for players who distinguish themselves…….How do we reward players who distinguish themselves at club level if not through national team call ups?…….How will the first team player of the national team be at top level when they know that their position is never under threat?

Thanks Akp. Gift Orban is good enough to play the number 10 role in the Super Eagles behind Osimhen and Lookman/ Victor Boniface. He can feed off the hard work of these two strikers when Nigeria plays a tough opposition. He should be integrated early into the Super Eagles to help him adapt to the team. He is also a technically gifted player who frequently scores free kicks and set pieces. I hope coach Peseiro is taken note of this talented and gifted player so Nigeria does not loose him.

They will not invite him, same stupid slogans, he should wait for his time, or who he go bench. The young man and Boniface should be call up now, these two guys eagles ready.

Orban is a Pure striker i don’t know where this talk of No10 came from but thank God internet coaches can only type.

What we need to do now is organize a high profile friendly and try out guys like Orban, Alhassan Yusuf, Boniface, and other promising lads. While I have no objection to inviting them for competitive games, the ideal way to introduce them to international football is through friendlies.

Pompei you’re very right but will NFF do what is right??? Will they not frustrate the boys until they fade away??? You know your country o.

That freekick he scored against Zulte Waregem. Oh la la!
How many times have we seen freekicks wasted in SE games? No reliable freekick taker. Orban could be a good option for that purpose. That is in addition to the goals and assists he brings.
If Peseiro has not heard of this guy yet, somebody should do him and Nigeria a favor and inform him.

I have just heard about this guy and i am yet to watch him. He should drafted into the flying eagles u/20 squad that has no prolific scorer first before making his debut in the super eagles. That’s my advice.

I go with Pompei in as much as I support a call up for Orban and other performing players, I also think it will be wise to try them in friendlies except a few who can gate crash into competitive matches as a result of special attributes. Saying this because we have seen players like Peter Ijeh, Tosin dosumu light up these middle class leagues or even from Atlanta Italy Ayodele makinwa the so called Tiger of Lagos instead of Cat failing to nail it with the national team after so much hype by press agents.
