Osimhen Fires Blanks Again As Struggling Lecce Hold Napoli To 1-1 Draw

Victor Osimhen fired blanks once again as Napoli were held to a 1-1 draw at home by struggling Lecce in the Serie A on Wednesday, Completesports.com reports.

Going into today’s fixture Osimhen had failed to find the back of the net at the weekend in the goalless draw at Fiorentina.

He has, however, scored two goals in four league appearances this term.

Napoli gave Giacomo Raspadori, Tanguy Ndombele, Leo Ostigard and Matias Olivera their first starts, rotating the squad after the goalless draw at Fiorentina.

Luciano Spalletti’s side had a bright start as Matteo Politano saw his scorcher acrobatically fingertipped over the bar by Wladimiro Falcone, but Ndombele clumsily clipped the back of Federico Di Francesco’s heels for a penalty.

The jeers were so loud in the stadium that when Lorenzo Colombo converted, he had to do it again, as the referee hadn’t blown the whistle yet.

When he stepped up the second time, Alex Meret got down for a one-handed save at the near bottom corner.

Moments later, Napoli took the lead on 27 minutes when Osimhen knocked it down for Politano, whose cross-shot turned into an assist for Eljif Elmas to tap in from six yards.

Colombo recovered from the penalty miss as he equalized on 31 minutes with an absolute scorcher from 20 metres out, arrowing off his left foot into the roof of the net.

Osimhen went close to give Napoli the lead again but his glancing header flashed wide at the back stick and Politano went even closer with a cut inside and curler that grazed the upright.

Matias Olivera stung Falcone’s gloves after a Kvicha Kvaratskhelia back-heel flick, as did Giovanni Di Lorenzo at the near post.

Falcone rushed off his line to clear from Osimhen and only just managed to get there in time, while the Nigerian also failed to keep his header down at the back post in stoppages.

The draw means Napoli now occupy the third spot on eight points in the league table after four games played so far.

Man City midfielder give every last ball to Halaan whether they are in a position to score or not that’s why he scores and most of his goals are easy tap ins. I pity Osimhen. He works his socks off just to score a goal because the midfielders don’t even play with him while going forward. They prefer to go solo and score a maradona like goal. I’ll advise Osimhen to leave for a team like Man u if they come calling again in January. They way Napoli is playing that might not end in the top 4 this season unless the coach addresses the issue.

Thanks for your accurate response. Lorenzo Insigne is the person I see most of the time playing selfishly against Osimeh. Lozano does the same thing too. Italian league is terrible. They racially abused Muntari, Balitelli and killed one Igbo guy recently.

  • Osimhen is proving to be like every other Nigerian player that came out of Naija and went to Europe. No balls no confidence, Stuck in Comfort Zone. The most Annoying being Kelechi Iheanacho and wilfred Ndidi as well as Samuel Chukwueze (Barring his move to Everton suffices) but even Chukwueze everton a down grade from villareal. Liverpool, wanted him at some point but as usuall Nigerian players will stay mute as long as thier are chopping thier first millions or rather thousands. ZERO Ambition especially Kelechi Iheanacho that guy is happy to chop bench as long as he gets paid no drive to improve. Osimhen is following suit he will wast in Napoli mark it. They have ZERO BALLS AND NO AMBITION!!! PERIOD. Only our Dual nationality have fighting spirit look at Bassey 1 chance he jumped to test himself in Ajax. It is that European mentality Nigerian players born and breed in Naija have a inferioty complex in Europe is what i am finding out now. Osimhen may just because another average player if he carries on like this sad but it may be true I really hope not fingers crossed and his stubborn boasting arrogant mentality is not helping him either. This my take. Sad very sad.

    • *Osimhen may just *BECOME* another average player if he carries on like this, it is sad. I really hope not fingers crossed. To be quite honest his stubborn boasting arrogant mentality is not helping him either. This is my take. Sad very sad. I really had a lot of hope in Victor Osimhen but after watching Haaland in England especially yesterday Osimhen is Miles away from being a top class attacker and one with out grit or ballz period only boasting mouth and yeye memes
