The goal was the forward’s first in the UEFA Champions League this season.

Osimhen showed good strength to turn Inigo Martinez just inside the penalty area on an Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa through ball and fired in from 14 yards.

Lewandowski, PSV Eindhoven’s Donyell Malen and Porto’s Gelano are the other players in contention for the award.

I pray Napoli wins the champions league so victor osimhen can have a chance of retaining the caf poty…

    • That will be a tough task. But anything is possible.

Oshimen lost a great chance to retain it when he began to miss chances at afcon. Luck was also not with him too. Three goals were ruled off by VAR – that hurts. He would have won the best player and striker by a mile.

A world class player and a gift to Nigeria. We should get good midfielders to really benefi immensely from this gift

      • Please, the chances Osimhen missed at the AFCON were at best half chances. Blame his one goal tally at the AFCON to the 5-4-1 approach cum negative football of the coach. Even at that he had 3 goals ruled out (as you rightly mentioned) and still contributed to about 2/3 of the goals Nigeria scored at the AFCON while playing as a lone striker upfront. I don’t know what else Osimhen should have done.

It’s not negative football. Negative football can never take you to the final of a major tournament like the AFCON. In a 16 team tournament the cup will already be ours.

We played a well organized compact team football we only lack finesse in the midfield. If we had midfielders who can drive the ball and be accurate in shooting we could’ve defeated Ivory Coast in the final.

Osimhen won two penalties, gave assists and also scored in the tournament. Overall he had a good tournament. Without him we might not have made it that far.
