Osimhen’s Late Equalizer Not Enough As Napoli Draw At Struggling Cagliari, Miss Chance To Go Top

Victor Osimhen managed to secure at least a point for Napoli following a tough draw at relegation threatened Cagliari in Monday night’s league game.

The draw means Napoli remain in third place on 54 points and would have usurp leaders AC Milan (on 56 points) if they had beaten Cagliari.

Napoli found themselves 1-0 down after a second half goal from Gaston Pereiro, but they didn’t give up and eventually their hard work was rewarded, when Osimhen headed home a Mario Rui cross to tie things up in Sardinia, securing an important point for the title race.

Cagliari started on the front foot, settling into the match quicker and having the majority of the early possession. They had a few chances in the first half before Napoli finally woke up and had a few of their own.

Cagliari kicked off the second half and kept up their momentum, leaving Spalletti’s side boxed in their own half.

Their pressure continued and they were rewarded in the 58th minute, when Pereiro hit a speculative long shot which David Ospina allowed to slip through his hands.

Napoli reacted well and pushed for the equaliser and a number of weak attempts, an Osimhen header in the 87th minute brought them back into the match.

The two teams jostled in the remaining minutes of the match, but neither could find a winner, leaving the game to end 1-1.

  • I still don’t understand why the coach benched Osimhen and brought him in at 67th minutes.

The result would have been different if Osimhen was part of the starting eleven.

Osimhen’s presence on the field alone is always a treat and would have kept the opponent away from Napoli side.

    Well done Osimhen.

    God bless Nigeria.

He is reserving players for Barcelona game is that not madness. He missed a great chance of topping the table today. He will end of empty handed this season most likely losing Italian league and europa cup. He should have started his strongest team today.

Osihmen will continue to silence retired players and their bandwagon.

Well said Brotherman Chima. We no longer need the likes of Sylvester Igboun, Gabriel Okechukwu, Anthony Okpotu and Kingsley Eduwo in the Super Eagles.

  • Spalletti threw away this game and missed a golden opportunity to top the table atleast for a week or so

  • Osimhen, dennis and lookman on target for their respective clubs in the past few days. Sadiq umar also scored a brace (you guys should watch the goals). I see these players becoming a mainstay in the Super Eagles attack.

Well done Osimhen. Just keep the fire up. I believe you are the best and having you with Dessers in the Super Eagles will be too much for our opponents to handle.

Our own have no choice, they have to go for the best. We have the players kę. If we don’t qualify for the World Cup, coach Eguavoen and Amunike should resign immediately after the world cup qualifiers against Ghana.

This is why I am singing this music into their ears now. No more average players in the Super Eagles. They have to select players based on current form. Enough of Akpeyi, John Noble, Ighalo and so on.

We want to have a strong squad like never before kę.

Our own should try and build a team that can compete with the best teams in the world. There is nothing wrong if Eagles can have three styles of play. Super Eagles should be unpredictable. That is very important.

I believe our own can achieve this but they have to step away from corruption. Transparency is key to success. Hmm, am I communicating ba? If so, ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

As a coach,Spaletti should have known that relegating teams always play like a wounded lion and as a result suppose start with his strong eleven.in any case,I wish Victor Osimhen best of luck at Napoli.
