Paris 2024: Ajakaye Excited By Super Falcons Invitation Ahead Ethiopia Clash

Delta Queens forward Opeyemi Ajakaye has expressed excitement following her invitation to the Super Falcons ahead Wednesday’s second round Paris 2024 Olympic qualifier against Ethiopia in Addis Ababa.

The Super Falcons will lock horns with Ethiopia in the first leg of the CAF Women’s Olympic qualifiers.

Ajakaye was previously called up for the Super Falcons WAFCON qualifying fixture against Sao Tome and Principe though the game was eventually cancelled.

The 17 year old was thrilled to announce her subsequent invitation by the Super Falcons on her X (formerly known as Twitter) handle.

“Excited to announce that I’ve been invited to join the Nigeria’s senior women’s national team ! It’s an honour to represent my country and wear the green and white. Can’t wait to give it my all and make Nigeria proud against Ethiopia! Nigeria#Superfalcons,” the post reads.

Ajakaye was part of the Falconets squad that participated at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in India last year. The Falconets finished in third place at the tournament.

She was also part of Nigeria’s squad at the 2023 WAFU B U-20 competition in Ghana. Nigeria finished runners-up at the tournament.

She won the tournament’s golden boot with six goals scored for the team.

The youngster was also the most valuable player at the Lagos State Federations Cup last year.

The 2024 Olympics will be held in France and will take place from July 26 to August 11 next year.

Africa will have two representatives at the women’s football competition at the 2024 Olympics.

Why not allow this lady to further horn her skills at the U-20 level before this premature invitation to the Super Falcons? No doubt she will be an asset to the Super Falcons in future but for now, she should be helping the U-20 in the world cup qualification journey

    • She is also an integral part of the Falconets, in fact she is included in their world cup qualifiers squad against Tanzania next month.
