Yemisi Ogunleye clinched the gold medal for Germany in the women’s shot put at the Paris Olympics on Friday.
Ogunleye claimed the gold medal after throwing her winning 20.00m with her final attempt.
Ogunleye’s effort saw her go past New Zealand’s Maddison-Lee Wesche, who threw 19.86, her personal best with her fifth throw, while China’s Song Jiayuan took bronze with a throw of 19.32.
The 25-year-old’s previous best performance was a silver in the world indoor championships in 2024, while she also won a bronze in the European Championships in Rome in June.
Jaida Ross of the United States places fourth while her team-mate Raven Saunders was eliminated after the three opening throws.
Tokyo gold medal winner Gong Lijiao of China, who also won silver in London and bronze in Beijing in 2008, finished fifth.
Ogunleye was born in Germersheim, Germany to a German mother and a Nigerian father.

She mixed/biracial. Another leon balogun and maduke okoye, mixed german, so who cares. But I know africans especially nigerians desperately wants mixed people to represent their “father” or “mother land”
Some Nigerians want only their village pipo to represent them.
They want selection to be based on nepotism, nma madu, my person, my paddy.
Meanwhile, other Nigerians like my humble self want only the best individuals to represent us. We don’t care about tribe or skin color, mixed or unmixed, handsome, beautiful, ugly, wor-wor. How you look or your background no concern us. As long as you’re the best, enter inside.
I tell you @Pompei
And those same tribalist, ethnic jingoist, etc. are the same one who will scream blue murder about everyone else being racist and imperialist!. Talk about lack of self-awareness.
Due to these nepotistic tendencies driving a failing State called Nigeria ,It is no surprise that everyone and their mom are choosing to represent other countries that truly cherish and respect their qualities.
The best should simply represent us no matter where they are born, based or from.
