The Nigerians were however disqualified for stepping on the line in their heat.
Belgium have now moved to second position, with South Africa stepping up to third position.
The quartet hopes of emulating the 2000 and 2004 teams that won gold and bronze in Sydney and Athens has now been dashed.

From one failure to another disappointment. This Olympics will surely go down as the worst for team Nigeria in recent times. It is just an indication of how things generally stand in the country at present.

Nigeria is NOT cursed and will never be! It might be a failed state but NOT cursed.
All I see in headlines are pictures of anguish on the faces of athletes across sports.
Is it even worth entering to participate?
Any fan who doesn’t lower their expectations under such an administrative sporting shambles is building castles in the air of hopelessness.
Nigeria is past tense now… a country taken over by criminals…
