Paris Olympics: Super Falcons’ Group Opponent Spain Suffers First Defeat In Seven Months

Nigeria’s Super Falcons opponent in the group stage of the Paris Olympics games, Spain, lost 2-1 away to Czech Republic in the UEFA Women’s Championship qualification on Friday.

The last time Spain lost a game was in December 2023, when they fell to a 3-2 defeat to Italy in the UEFA Women’s Nations League.

After the loss to Italy, the reigning World Cup champions went on to win their next seven games before the streak was ended by Czech Republic.

Spain would be looking to bounce back from the disappointing loss when they take on Belgium on Tuesday, July 16 in another UEFA Women’s Championship qualification.

The Spanish women’s team would be making their debut in the football event of the Olympics at this year’s edition.

They will begin their campaign against Japan on July 25 and face the Super Falcons three days later.

On July 7, they will end the group phase with a clash against two-time Olympic silver medal winners Brazil.

Meanwhile, Japan continued their preparations for the Olympics with a comfortable 4-0 win against Black Queens of Ghana on Saturday.

It is their third consecutive win in friendly games after seeing off New Zealand in May and June.

The problem we are having in football in Nigeria is lack of adequate preparations and organization. The Super falcons have not played one single friendly and yet we want to win medal at Olympic football games and meanwhile our opponents like Spain and japan have already played one or two friendlies.
Please our football administrators need to wake up and do the needful.
We are still praying for our girls to go far in the tournament and win gold for us.
Go girls and soar like falcons.
