Sergio Perez insists he can see through a tough first year for Racing Point and is optimistic about the future. In their inaugural year in Formula 1, the Silverstone-based team have taken 31 points to date to sit eighth in the constructors’ standings.
Perez has 13 points to his name while team-mate Lance Stroll has five more and the duo are battling it out with the likes of Renault, Hass, Toro Rosso and Alfa Romeo in mid-division. There is still a long way to go but Mexican flyer Perez seems confident that they can push on from what has been a tricky beginning for the new outfit. “It has been great,” he told Racer.com.
“Amazing. On track we haven’t had the results we hoped for – we knew that this year was going to be a transition – but I can see the big picture, and the future ahead looks very good and very strong.
“I knew it was going to be tough, but I thought, ‘not as tough as it is at the moment, and how it has been’. But I see how we are going to progress and how things are looking, and they are looking good.”
