Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro says he’s optimistic the Super Eagles have what it takes to win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Recall that Nigeria finished as group leaders with 15 points from six matches ahead of Guinea Bissau as both countries will be playing at the tournament in Cote D’Ivoire in January 2024.

The Portuguese tactician who recently accepted a pay cut in a bid to remain as coach of the senior national team, told Brila FM in a chat that the desire to win the 2023 AFCON was the main reason behind his decision.

“Me and my staff did everything in order to stay here to train these players and reach the big goal, win the AFCON title,” Peseiro told Brila FM.

The 63-year-old recently penned a new six-month deal that will expire at the end of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations set to be hosted by Cote d’Ivoire between January 13 to February 11.

@ Peseiro, you have always been saying it, and have always dreamt of winning the AFCON despite the short comings and the disorganized NFF structure to bring the best out of our darling team the SE.
However with determination, discipline,Perseverance in the face of adversaries, more hard work, may the almighty God, always listen and will make your dream come true.
After all, it is an open battle and the cup is up for any determine team to win

    • FOR YOU TO ACTUALLY MAKE YOUR DREAM OF WINNING NEXT AFCON TO COME TO PAST, YOU MUST DROP IRREGULAR, INCONSISTENT, BENCH-WARMER PLAYERS OUT OF YOUR TEAM. AND ALSO MAKE YOUR LIST OF INVITED PLAYERS NOT TO BASE ON EGO, SENIORITY OR EXPERIENCE (without fitness)

Hahahaha…this Peserio guy really understands the mentality of Nigerians…his agent must be doing a good job schooling him properly. He sure knows how to deliver political statements.

After 2 previous disastrous outings with Saudi Arabia and Venezuela, and with a 4 out of 9 win record with Nigeria and more than 10 places drop on the FIFA ranking since you took over, it would have been foolhardy of you to not accept a pay-cut to remain on the job and even get saddled with more job (SE coach + CHAN coach).

That would have seriously dented your international coaching CV and probably put a nail on the coffin of your career as a national team coach. I mean, if you couldnt get results in Asia with Saudi Arabia, get results in S/America with Venezuela and in Africa with Nigeria……where else would a national team job from…??

Good luck with your ambitions of winning the AFCON, but just a word of warning…this your 4-2-4 system will not get you to even the semifinals of AFCON o. If you think I am lying, ask Mr. Eguavoen and his 9 dullards. My 2 cents….!

Honestly that formation WILL struggle against deep lying counter attacking teams if he’s not careful might not go past the group phase in the upcoming afcon. A 4-3-3 will suit the SE better, anyway he’s the coach not me so good luck to him.

@Dr. Drey, you have just given Oga Peseiro a good advice on his 4-2-4 system , although with some knocks from you.

Oga Peseiro, Please you need to have different formation for different teams to play teams like the North Africans Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, and another formation for the likes of Senegal, Ghana, ivory Coast and especially Cameroun , and another formation for the likes of South Africans, Zambia. If you perfect this system and formation, Nigeria will surly by God’s Grace win the AFCON in January 2024.

Please CSN kindly sort out whatever computer glitches is troubling this site. For sometimes now, I have been struggling to see a story twice. Going to page 2 or other previous pages isn’t helping as you only get to see very old messages. This is very unprofessional for a well respected site like CSN.

Well, I wish you the best. What Oga and his followers couldn’t do for good six years, Oga Paseiro can do it in Ivory Coast kę. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

  • Against guinea Bissau at Abuja we out played them and lost now we defeated Sao Tome convinsely yet fools refused to see improvement after winning by six nothing or do you want us to dribble them hundred times before you know that we have improved,

Your determination is valid but do you have the acumen to realise it? That is the big question… Nigeria is super blessed with enough talents to even win the world cup but what we don’t have is the expertise to utilise the boys in achieving this goal…administrators and coaches have failed deliberately when it mattered most. Either because they are not technically endowed or just not willing to do the right things for selfish reasons.

I will therefore urge Peseiro to express or explore his technical know-how to the fullest in the realisation of this desire. He must ask questions and listen to wise counselling. You must chose the best players for each positions and work on the team chemistry, fluidity, speed and goals. You must ensure that the players invited are patriotic enough to hold the Nigerian colour and deliver when it matters. The midfield must be the best selection Nigeria can ever wish for….the defence must be swift and cohesive, the attack must not have any excuse not to deliver and the keepers must be the best Nigeria can trust all times…. please, don’t be dragged into the ethnic or tribal sentiments in your selections. Your selections must be based on merit and on those who are experienced enough to interpret any game plan….

SAO Tome and Principe is not a formidable team to joy ove any win… your records with the team is not very Rosy yet. Nigeria expects more and better wins not Sao Tome and Principe. The world cup qualifiers are just around the corner and any mishaps will never be tolerated by the Nigerian fans as football is what brings joy to their faces. If you ever feel you need some technical beef up in your capacity to achieve these goals, don’t hesitate to ask for it now… Peseiro…the ball is in your court!!!
