Peseiro: Selecting Right Players My Biggest Challenge As Super Eagles Coach

Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, has confessed that selecting the right players to prosecute games for the senior national team has been the biggest challenge of his coaching career.

Peseiro made this known on the backdrop of the array of stars such as Eberechi Eze, Michael Olise, Folarin Balogun, Carney Chukwuemeka, Tosin Adarabioyo, Noni Madueke among the numerous players of Nigeria’s decent eligible to play for the Eagles.

In a chat with The Mirror, the Portuguese tactician stated that he would extend invitations to players who have a passion to play for Nigeria, adding that it is not an easy task to select players.

“There are many, many players at the moment that can play for Nigeria. You receive some information or when you watch many players on TV or live, you can discover more players, more players, more players,” Peseiro said in an interview with the Mirror

“I was in some matches when I was in England to see some players, then at the same time, we discovered, ‘well that player can play for us, also’, normally young players.

“There are many good players with quality, capacity and good training. For us, if we want to win the next AFCON, I am happy because I have many players with the quality to create a good national team.

“But it’s not easy to choose the right players. We try to see them in the match, and after that, I try to call them for our practice and our friendly games because we want to create a small group with quality for developing in training and practice to implement our ideas to win the next AFCON.

“But there are a lot of players, and they need to show the maximum demand and motivation to play for Nigeria. Quality, of course, but demand and motivation to play for us.”

The solution to the challenge is simple:
Stop listening to failures like Pinnick and his friends.
Don’t give preferential treatment to any players.
    Drop any player that underperforms.
Get new leaders for the team.

IF COACH PASEIRO DOESN’T WANT TO FAIL WITH SUPER EAGLE, HE SHOULD INVITE PLAYERS BASE ON THEIR POTENTIALS. HE SHOULD STOP/FORGET USING/INVITING PLAYERS BY NAME/EGO. HE SHOULD GO OUT ALL OVER THE UNIVERSE AND SCOUT FOR A PLAYERS THAT ARE READY TO DIE ON PITCH (like Osayi-samuel, Uche-Azuibuke, Ebere-Eze, Amao,Osimhen,Dessers). UNLESS HE WILL MAKE A RECORD OF WORST EVER COACH IN THE HISTORY OF NIGERIA SUPER EAGLE. BECAUSE IT HAS BEEN LONG NIGERIA HAVE EXPERIENCE SUCH HUGE DEFICIT SCORELINE (AGAINST PORTUGAL)

I beg to deviate a little from Pesero’s opinion. For sure Nigeria is blessed with numerous quality players but most of them are Strikkers or wingers. The country is in dire need of quality players in Midfield, Defence and Goalkeeping. Like I have said before the match against Ghana. You cannot win a big tournament without a quality Goalkeeper. For some years now the SE has not done well in the AFCON and even fail to qualify for the world cup despite the avalenche of quality strikers just because of bad goal keeping. We all watched the world cup and saw the role played by the keeper to help Argentina win the world despite the presence of supers like Messi and Di maria. Even Messi has confess of been indebted to the goalkeeper , Martinez ,for saving his blushes and helping him realise his dream of winning the world cup. So in conclusion, Pesero should stop boasting and get down to work . Like I have said in my last article , the first challenge before the coaching crew is to get Nigeria a national team goal keeper. I don’t see Uzoho or Okoye has having the character of a National team keeper. If we can comb the local league , I’m sure will discover one. Once u see a keeper with National team quality you will know easily. We can all remember how Eyeama bursted into limelight against England and since then has never looked back. We also need one local player in the midfield to provide prayer grit and compactness in the middle. Pls its not time to boast of having strikers but time to work cos strikers alone cannot give u a balance team.

  • Pesiero is trying to pass a very powerful message across without offending the powers that be……He knows what to do to bring success but the powers that be will not allow him….. Favouritism Nepotism Sentimentality Quota system and Godfatherism has eaten so deep into our football……You can never imagine the extent to which these evil structures has destroyed Our football until you get involved……When we say our football administration is rotten to an unimaginable extent we mean what we say…….They sorround piesero with Coaches that camouflage as assistants but their real purpose there is to coordinate their fraudulent activities from inside the team…… Piesero is just trying to let you guys know that we have what it takes to succeed but the satanic structure of corruption has made it impossible to succeed so nobody should blame him when reality stares at us at last.

It’s a big problem, Akp. A very big problem. We all wish Nigerian players can show the kind of commitment and passion Moroccan players showed at the world cup, but the thing is that commitment, passion and similar qualities are like contagious diseases. You have to get it from somewhere.
The Moroccan players got it from their administrators. Those officials worked their socks off, developing policies and procedures, and doing everything to ensure that the players have the ideal platform to excel.
Our powers that be should use their powers to benefit our football. Officials should do their jobs. That alone will almost guarantee success for Nigeria, because we have talented players. However, all the talent in the world without competent administration is tantamount to pouring water into a basket.
      NFF action points:
      Pay coaches’ salaries.
      Pay players’ bonuses.
Maintain our pitches to world class standard.
      Provide player welfare and healthcare.
Merit based selection of coaching staff and players at all times.
If these things are done, success will come. Even if success delays, the fans will be grateful and appreciative of the NFF’s efforts.

  • @ APK satanic structure like local goalkeeprs will now be having enough time in se. One of their local goal keeps smuggled illegally when we need a striker got there and started fighting for dollar .

The way Nigeria is fashioned as a country is like ho if you know how to fruadulently, violently, deceptively make money at the detriment of others gbam, come over Nigeria is a place for you.

Our administrator from all sector have for gone quality at glimpse of personal gain and selfish rewards.

Wants to quickly make it,wants to become player agent and cash in on them without investing sound training in such players.

Wants to use se as an avenue to sell halfbake players. These forces are powerful for pesiro to deal with.

Pesiro better be adamant in your choice of players selection if not, this job of caching ṣe will amount to another fialure in your CV.
