New Technical Adviser of the Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro has stated that his mission is to help Nigeria win the next African Cup of Nations in Cote D’Ivoire, next year.
The Portuguese coach made the remarks to the Minister of Youth and Sports Development on Thursday, as he was officially received at the Minister’s Conference Room.

Peseiro said: “I came here for one goal; I want to win the next AFCON for my fantastic players and for Nigerians. I am confident because I believe in this team, I believe in the quality and the number of good players. I have followed Nigeria’s history in football from the 1994 and other successful teams and I want to bring back that joy again”
The 62 year old thanked the Ministry and the NFF for giving him the opportunity to work with Nigeria, reiterating Nigeria’s stance as a top footballing nation in Africa.
“Nigeria is top 5 when it comes to football in Africa. I want to say appreciate the minister and the Football Federation for this opportunity to lead the national team. I will work round the clock to ensure we achieve as much success as possible and the journey starts now”.

Peseiro has previously worked with top clubs such as Real Madrid, FC Porto, Braga etc. With the Super Eagles done with the tour of U.S for prepatory games, the team will switch attentions to the AFCON 2023 qualifiers.
Nigeria will take on the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja on Thursday, 9th June, before travelling to Marrakech to face Sao Tome and Principe on Tuesday, 13th June, 2022.

The Super Eagles have a mixture of passionate newcomers, and cynical and underachieving so-called Senior Men. Peseiro should first understand this character of his players.
Passionate and Promising Players: Lookman, Calvin Bassey, Osimhen, Dessers
Average Players: Aina, Aribo, Etebo
Enigma: Iheanacho
Underachieving Players: Moses Simon, Chukwueze, Iwobi
Yet to Prove Themselves: Ajayi, Awaziem, Sanusi, Ejuke, Moffi, Sadiq, Bonke, Onyeka
Chief Justice of the Bench: Ahmed Musa (MON)
The rest of the players fall between these groups, some are average but passionate; Troost-Ekong, Balogun
Unfortunately, too many underachieving players are in the Super Eagles engine room of the wings and midfield. Not enough are showing commitment and passion and there are also too many ‘Yet to Prove Themselves’.
The concept of ‘senior man’ has given certain players an overbearing sense of entitlement. They believe a shirt and position is theirs because of seniority or some past heroic performance.
Every position should have 2 players, a shirtholder, and his cover. The cover for a position should ideally be a younger understudy, especially in forward positions. Senior men should not be tolerated as cover, if they can’t hold onto a starting place they should retire.
Wetin dis one dey tok oga u r busy pushing ur anti musa agenda which won’t pay u dividends or do U any good forgeti and focus on supporting what we have at d moment cos it’s all the SE needs 4rm us not senior man Musa dis…Musa dat
Don’t mind him
@Tristan – Broda man I agree with you up to the point when you identified where you put Ajayi in your summary, this is where I disagree bro, you see yeah, Ajayi is a God sent as a defender and therefore to us – mark my words, his quality will shine through with more game time and you’ll see what I mean
“I came here for one goal, I want to win the next AFCON for my fantastic players and for Nigerians”……“I am confident because I believe in this team, I believe in the quality and the number of good players” ….Jose Peseiro
Yet we had coach in Gernot Rohr who complained about the quality of our players. We do not have players in top clubs like Liverpool, Chelsea, Man U, Man City, so he could not build a good team. The same team and same players he left behind is now playing on a different level now.
Hahahahaha….Yea, you are absolutely correct….they are now playing on a different level of not being able to reach common AFCON Qfinal and outrightly not being able to qualify for the World Cup….LMAoooo.
Its indeed a whole new different level….LMAOoo
…and of course, if we had a coach different from Eguavoen who was very predictable with his tactics, who would have had different results in both AFCON and World Cup qualifier against Ghana. To think Eguavoen would still present the same game plan he used against Tunisia @ AFCON against Ghana at the qualifier is ridiculous and unimaginable. Fresh air please.
Oh, really…..? I thought bragging and praising your players alone is all that is needed to produces results….LMAoo
This man may end up shooting himself, he should take it easy saying he wants to win, football a times is luck, and those guys in our federation don’t understand nothing even when you loose. Easy you will do well, but careful with this am here to win, what if you don’t win the nations cup?
Atleast he has a goal.. He set a target for himself!! Which is a very good thing!!! Saying something like ” I will win the nation’s in the next three or four years” gives room for complacency.. I love his work ethic already!!! No time to procrastinate
Everywhere in the world , that is the mindset of every new coach, even in about to be relegated team, or you prefer him to say “ I’m here to see if I can win? “ it’s difficult to understand you guys at times.
We have the best set of players in Africa, now we must have the best team, look at the way ivory coast play, see the way they played france, very good, mali plays wonderful too with how many above average players? If we can get our boys to play the way these countries do, we would do better because we have better players. To back my claim, now look at Senegal that won afcon, their second best attacker is ismaila sarr, that dude is good but in a bad watford team, so he couldn’t really perform up to expectations, but look at Dennis’ performance in that same Watford, and someone would say most of our players are below average, we have a good combo of average and above average players just like other African teams. We have lookman, not the best of the best, but definitely few levels above average, tell him what to do on the pitch and he would give any defender a run for his money. we have osimhen, if he is so bad, then why do Bayern, Newcastle and manu need him? This dude has the best movement for a striker i have seen in a while, but thanks to injuries, mr penalty insigne and greedy teammates, man has only 14 League goals. look at iwobi, some midfielders take time to develop fully, especially when they keep showing the potential to be topclass, look at debruyne, 25 26 man became a beast, towards the end of everton season, man became a beast, i think his time is now. Bassey, potentially a more technical koulibaly. our wan bissaka, zaidu, can’t really cross, very fast and good at defending, how many nigerians have succeeded at porto? Go and ask aweziem. We have ndidi, better than gueye, there’s aribo, awoniyi 6 highest goal scorer in bundesliga, we have got aribo too, and also potentials in umar who single handedly gave almeria promotion, onyedika and ndah. We just need a good tactician to get this guys to play like their level, and we are good
Peserio telling them the naked truth they dont want to hear….LMAOOoo
“…The senior national team is not for players development, rather for players who are at the peak of their game…”
“…our best players belong to outside (sic) the country…”
How many times have we told them all these same things…even those who claim to have played to the highest levels……LMAOoo
https://www.owngoalnigeria.com/2022/06/08/what-coach-peseiro-said-about-inviting-npfl-players-to-super-eagles-for-development/
Peserio effectively telling them he wouldnt tolerate home-based players being shoved down his throat just for the sake of it…..LMAOooo. Not even when he has a 1 year no-slack contract that will be called into account every quarter.
Dr Drey longest time sir, you haven’t being consistent here for a while hope everything is going well. I seriously missed your knowledge and analysis of the game of football here. You are welcome Sir.
Cheers my brother. All is well. You are highly regarded.
Watching other nations prepare for the WC in friendlies across the globe, knowing fully well that we snatched our WC own ouster from the jaws of certain qualification, out of petty hatred and greed, still hurts deeply. Hence the seeming disinterest these days.
Who cares. Crawl back into your cage boy. In fact, the less you contribute the better. What you do is make a nuisance of yourself anyway. Lolzzzz. That world cup failure will pepper you wella. Lolzzzz. You are not highly regarded. After all your threats before Nigeria lost the world cup qualifiers, what have you done? Have you converted the ceiling to the ground? Empty barrels. Continue to keep away boy.lolz

Inferiority-complexed, destiny-jaundiced lowlife is really enjoying the shit rubbed in his face with his “successful AFCON” and “triumphant WC qualification” orchestrated by his god Eguavoen.
Who is more of an empty barrel and a nuisance than the street dog who keeps amusing himself with his “…heaven bless yen yen yen yen and all deserving players yen yen yen…” stupidity on this forum……LMAoooo..? My threats have led to Pinnick forcibly stepping down his NFF presidency 3rd term ambitions…..LMAOooo
My threats have led to even the hitherto recalcitrant sports minister agreeing to return to hiring of foreign coaches for the SE…..LMAOOooo.
My threats have even forced a shameless street dog like you to abandon your Igbe (shit) name for Ignatius when you couldn’t bear the shame anymore….LMAOooo
Keep on barking all over the place seeking for whom to bite ehn…….LMAOoooo. Drink rat poison if you cant contain your jealousy anymore….LMAOooo

Go and hang yourself because the collective voices of myself, my “followers” and other well meaning Nigeria’s has delivered us from the grip of lifetime rotten teeth failures like you and your tin-gods whom you were worshipping and celebrating here.

Igbekun the attention seeker. Igbekun the hopeless street dog. Dearly beloved please help a dog in need.
Who names Igbe (shit) himself shit if not one whose parents have used his destiny for blood money
Nigerian players have it in them to be the best but simply lack motivation, there are not ambitious at all. There only come to the national team to unwind then return back to their various clubs where there left all of their arms to fight.
The main problem in our sports (not just football) is the corruption-ridden, incompetent administration. Our officials have let us down over and over again through the years.
By now, Nigeria should have won the world cup, and I’m not talking about under-whatever competitions. By now, Nigeria should be challenging more for medals at the Olympics. We have the talents to accomplish these feats, but our administrators continue to remove the wheels from our wagon of progress with their greed and ineptitude.
Their USE AND DUMP management style has led to several of our athletes absconding from Nigeria to go represent other countries. A certain Kemi Adekoya comes to mind, a Nigeria-born 400m hurdler who now competes for Bahrain. Another Nigerian athlete, Ebelechukwu Agbapuonwu also dumped Nigeria for the same Bahrain. Her own case is kinda funny. She not only dumped Nigeria, she also dumped her Nigerian name, and took on the Arabic name SALWA EID NASER. Hehehe, for an Igbo girl to dump her Igbo name and assume an Arabic name, it speaks to the possible frustration she experienced while trying to get ahead in her career with Nigeria!
The recent ban of our basketball teams will likely make athletes across disciplines think twice about representing a country that cares next to nothing about their well being.
By the time our officials finish with our athletes, all of them will have absconded to go represent Bahrain, or other countries that will accommodate them.
A certain Francis Obikwelu was Nigeria’s best prospect to win a medal in 100m and 200m at the Olympics after dominating Africa at the All Africa games. He was frustrated out of Nigeria and later chose to represent Portugal. He not only won Portugal a medal at the Olympics he is now a personal trainer for the great Christiano Ronaldo.
You see my brother I can never blame any top talent who dumbs Nigeria for their adopted countries. I can only appreciate the ones who sacrificed their well-being just to wear the Green and white for Nigeria because in most case they’re leaving their comfort zones.
All those people shouting our own to the last breath of their lungs how many of them reside in Nigeria??? A lot of them are just standing on the fence to see how well they can fail with their own. They want the coach to live in Nigeria and monitor home based players. I tell you what, when he start going round the league to look for players they will accuse him of trying to sell Nigerian players.
They accused Westerhoff of selling our players all through his 5 years reign. For a white man to boycott the entire NFF and go straight to the Vice President of the country what does that tell you about our administrators?? He didn’t even go through the sports ministry. He was collecting money directly from the presidency.
That to me is the only way SuperEagles can achieve greatness under any coach. Keshi also enjoys such privileges during Goodluck Jonathan reign and we all saw the results. Our football has to be free of nepotism before we can enjoy success again. We have the players but according to the new coach we lack organizational logic.
Well said brotherman @Ayphillytheman. Please continue to comment here. You are highly appreciated. Heaven bless AYphillytheking and all deserving Super Eagles pundits.
I totally agree, Ayphillydegreat.
The Francis Obikwelu story still makes me shake my head whenever it comes to mind. He is now Portuguese for all intents and purposes, frustrated away from his fatherland by the very people who should have been supporting him!
Now that Okagbare has been involuntarily retired due to her ban, she has been completely forgotten. She probably would not have ended up like this if she had chose to run for Bahrain, hehehehe!
All our other athletes that are representing Nigeria today, what will be their portion when they can no longer compete?
Our administrators need to start fulfilling their duties regarding ATHLETES’ WELFARE. If they do, our sports will improve significantly.
Who knows any link to watch the match?
And what’s the lineup already?
