Pinnick Hails Moroccan Referee Over Penalty Call In Super Eagles’ Draw Against Ghana

Pinnick Hails Moroccan Referee Over Penalty Call In Super Eagles’ Draw Against Ghana

President of the Nigeria Football Federation Amaju Pinnick has eulogized Moroccan referee Redouane Jiyed for his brave performance in Friday’s 2022 FIFA World Cup playoffs between the Black Stars and Super Eagles.

The Super Eagles believed they had won a penalty 15 minutes from time after Black Stars midfielder Baba Iddrisu appeared to have handled the ball in the box.

But the decision was overturned after Jiyed consulted with the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), which was being used in an African World Cup play-off for the first time.

Pinnick believes the centre referee got his decision right as there was a foul on a Ghanaian player during the build up to the incident.

“I think the referee did well. It was a correct call. The Nigerian player pushed Baba Iddrisu and that made him touched the ball,” Pinnick stated on Akoma FM.

“We have no problem with officiating. However, will win convincingly at home. Our team is better but we were unfortunate today. Football is football.”

The two teams will clash in the second leg at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja on Tuesday.

It’s high time completesportsnigeria started censoring messages before going to press. The above comments are rather unfortunate for a reputable newspaper as yours

Our Federation President the Kumasi match is gone for good though as usual permutations here and there abide. Some are like, why did coach Eguavoen played this or that, coach Eguavoen must vacate his traditional birth right to another, may be to his assisting ball boys, can you imagine? And many of such sorts like this and that should be coach Eguavoen line up as if the Black Stars where in Kumasi to eat kenken and possibly dance azonto after some tods of Accra kainkain. Musa will hear many things at the gate no doubt but those who are now proud Nigerians are funny sha!

Before I forget my question Amaju Pinnick, why didn’t NFF ensure that the match was live on any NTA channels? In fact, CSN should’ve by now owned a TV channel where forum members could watch any sport, mostly football involving Nigeria.

And though we have written to Aspirant Atiku, I would also like to know why he didn’t leverage on the Raymond Dokpesi owned AIT to air the match knowing fully well that football brings Nigerians together.

Nigerians won’t entertain any excuse next wk Tuesday.

In all fairness, the referee did all to the best of his ability besides all of that, VAR was called in.
My astonishment was laid on purview around what like AtikuSports atoned were expectations from a certain mentality. I was like should Eguavoen enter the pitch to push Aribo or Simon to score goals? Eguavoen did a nice job irrespective of the score line. One was even saying a foreign coach like the former G. Rohr will be better as compared to the one, I mean our own local coach that we put there. No nation does that when we have accepted to win or even lose with our own. Meanwhile, Playing for us is their right though we often come there as well. Concerning this thing that we have to rely on DSTV or some online website eg, hesgoal to watch our darling Super Eagles play, I join to kick against it. Amuju and Sony Dare must address that issue because they are the right persons to do so. For Atiku, he is a politician, and a Nigerian politician for that matter. It is difficult to believe such a person even he said he will foot the bill for AIT to air the next match. Let’s get prepared for our next match.

  • Amju should be talking about how to bring matches live to the TV sets of Nigeria. Meanwhile, one thing going for Atiku is his wider clout. Atiku had built contacts and connections all around the country over years all for the sake of building an egalitarian society, an atmosphere bequeathed to all to be equal but on merit and not necessarily where one comes from. It is even estimated that he has 40% reach to the outside World which includes the proletariats and bourgeoisies. Besides building schools and raising standard of education here, in Senegal, Atiku built schools for the poor but this is clearly unannounced. Where it to be other politicians, the whole wide World would’ve heard of such gesture. Atiku must look at how to support the Super Eagles in any capacity and for the entire gamut, Nigerians would be happier seeing eagles play their matches live.

The match was live on ntasport.. Startime even advertise it on twitter.. Na you u no notice.

    • What’s the difference between DSTV and Startime? You know? If only the NFF could get Nigerians who couldn’t afford cable network to watch matches live.

What Etebo did, gesticulating like a chimpanzee and kneeling in front of the referee in protest like a slave must stop.

The referee was right in his decision about the penalty call. I’m Nigerian and wanted us to win but it was not a penalty. Without the foul on the Ghanaian player, he wouldn’t have handled the ball. There was no penalty period.!!
