Pinnick: NFF Consulted Mourinho Over Super Eagles Coaching Job

President of the Nigeria Football Federation Amaju Pinnick has confirmed that the soccer house held talks with AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho in their search for a new coach for the Super Eagles, reports Completesports.com.

The NFF are in the hunt for a new head coach for the three-time African champions following the sacking of Gernot Rohr.

Former Super Eagles defender Austine Eguavoen has been placed in temporary charge of the team pending the appointment of a substantive head coach.

Pinnick stated that the NFF consulted Mourinho, who is touted as one of the most successful coaches in football in their bid to get a top-class gaffer for the Super Eagles.

“The emphasis on the new coach is discipline. We will look at his antecedents on discipline,” Pinnick said during a parley with the media on Wednesday.

“Secondly, we will also look at how hungry he is to win trophies because if they are hungry it supersedes so many things and if he wants to win he will instil discipline. We will look at all these things but I cannot make a pronouncement emphatically because I will be undermining my executive committee.

“So, until my executive committee comes out within the next week or so to say this is the name because the technical committee has to bring their presentation to the executive committee. It is going to be a seamless movement to the current team headed by Eguavoen.

“But we have spoken to three top coaches and Peseiro, whose name has been going around, is one of the coaches and I can tell you he is a top coach.”

He added, “We also talked to Mladen (Krstajic) but after talking to him he got a job with a top club in Israel, Maccabi Tel Aviv. You can see these are coaches that are hungry and ready to take Nigeria as a home; they are people that we know are ready to face the challenge from the 200 million Nigerians.

“They are coaches who the players cannot be bigger than and I believe we are doing everything we can and that’s why we interface with the ministry on every level.

“Of course Mourinho, I am not going to tell you we didn’t talk to Mourinho because we did and the (sports) minister also talked to Mourinho and there is nothing wrong with it.”

  • Bello 2 years ago

Abeg Amaju, we need to face the task ahead now. What country has Mourinho help to win the World Cup?

  • TALK UR OWN 2 years ago

ANY COACH THEY WANT TO EMPLOY SHOULD A YOUNG & VIBRANT COACH. HE MUST BE THE ONE WHO KNOW ABOUT NIGERIA FOOTBALL AND AFRICA FOOTBALL.
NOT JUST HIGH PROFILE COACH THAT DOESN’T KNOW NIGERIA PLAYERS AND AFRICA FOOTBALL LIKE LAS LAGERBACK

  • Gabriel 2 years ago

Why not Belmadi who has won the cup? Our leaders eh! What’s wrong in having an African coaching the Super Eagles?

    • Awele 2 years ago

Any coach that the sports administration will hire should understand the super eagles pattern of play, must be disciplined and reside in Nigeria to monitor the home based eagles in their matches not the coach that will in abroad and do his coaching whenever there’s tournament.

  • This people are hiding our own list o. No wonder.

  • Paulinus 2 years ago

You talk to Mladen Krstajic, talk to Peseiro, talk to Mourinho, only nff from Nigeria, nff we beg una. Nations cup is 2 weeks time and these people are asking for the list.

  • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

LMAO!! @Ben nice one I read in one of your comments where you told the Rohr haters that since they are claiming that the list is not good, to proove that Eguavon is a bad ass coach (a genius) he should strike it all out and come up with his own list.. is it compulsory to accept it. That was epic bro..LMAO!!

    • Thanks Chief, someone needs to use rock to wake some people up. Stone is not good anymore these days.

“The emphasis on the new coach is discipline”……LMAOOooo.

Dont pay the players their 2 years running to 3 years owed bonuses Inugo…be looking for the Tunde Idiagbon that will come with a horsewhip to gag them from talking back at you and demanding for what is due to them since the last AFCON.

    • Igbekun Abo 2 years ago

Na so so sense full your plate. Dem suppose call you Dr Ogbonkun Abo (sense full plate). Well said sir. NFF should pay the wages of players on time.

Wetin concern agbero with overload? Does Mourinho have any stake or interest in Nigerian football? Does he give a damn if the SE succeed or fail?
NFF is looking for coaches that are hungry. Hungry for what? Hungry for nonpayment of salaries? Hungry for bad pitches? Hungry for administrative incompetence?
Which coach that is worth his salt will want to coach Nigeria, with our incompetent NFF? All that coach needs to do is google Nigerian football, and he will run like African Guardiola.
Peseiro that you want to hire, is requesting to meet Rohr over nonpayment of salary wahala, and is asking for 3 months salary upfront.
Make una dey dia dey look for hungry coaches. The problem starts with the NFF.
If the NFF is not hungry or ambitious, no coach can come here and perform miracle.
NFF ONIGBESE REMAINS OUR BIGGEST PROBLEM. THEY NEED TO SHAPE UP, OR SHIP OUT!

  • Thanks Chief, someone needs to use rock to wake some people up. Stone is not good anymore these days.

  • Let me laugh small. Sunday Dare spoke to Mourinho. Mourinho that can call people out on their shit. Is that not drama Sunday Dare was asking for.
Sometimes wisdom is hard to come by these days.

Ben,.. hahaha, hiding our own list. When is their own coming up with a list?

    • Bello 2 years ago

At least your own was appointed. Their own wasn’t even appointed and you are here talking about list….hmmmm!

  • Ako AMADI 2 years ago

If Mourinho agrees to manage Nigeria it will be a big boost for football in Africa without doubt. The NFF must break the bank to get him. His name alone will frighten our opponents.

Just Mourinho that has been inconsistent of late is the one that can recognize a good coach for us, and worst be said is this said coach doesn’t have any trophy cabinet of his own. Godforbid but Nigeria is a sinking ship with Pinnick who’s good at making wrong moves. Why not confide in Pep if you’re really looking for advice from a great football philosopher and not the defensive minded Mou who’s been pushed aside by heavy weights for sometime now.

  • Sunnyb 2 years ago

Bro , it’s a game, they don’t ve Mourinho money, precise they knew mourinho would never accept their wayo offer. These con artists are just gaming and toying with Nigerians, poor Nigerians God will help them.

  • Childish-man. Talking to Mourinho is now an achievement

NFF should be ashamed of themselves for having you as their president.

Amaju, you are not a good leader and you should be kick out of that position soon.

You are doing as if Super Eagles is your company.

You should be the one serving us but not other way around.

You made a mistake in the past and you never learned anything from it. You are still repeating the same thing over and over again. You hire Oga Rohr and nothing to show for it.

You asked from former Arsenal coacch before you opted for Oga Rohr and in the end, are we satisfied?

You wicked, egotism and selfish president kept Oga Rohr for almost six without a tangible reason.

Agu is still in charge of the Super Eagles because of you.

Ighalo, Musa and Akpeyi are still at the national team because of you Pinnick.

Musa can still be in the team as a leader but aside from that, what else can he add to the team.

You brought in Ighalo and our last match showed that age is catching up with Ighalo. He can not run, he has no strength and he contributed nothing in that match. Still, the best coach in the history of Nigeria football, Oga Rohr listed Ighalo and Akpeyi in the Super Eagles Afcon list.

I have warned you Nigerians about Amaju. Before we can enjoy good football from Super Eagles, we have to chase Amaju out and bring in ex players to be the next NFF President otherwise, Super Eagles will struggle under Amaju Pinnick.

We have our own. They are ready to get the job for us but just because you full of yourself, you ridiculously putting coach Eguavoen there as a interim coach instead of you to put the man there fully so that he can concentrate on his team but you are running around to seek for advice from outsiders when you have your own people here at home? What a shame.

Is club football not different from national football Pinnick Amaju?

You manipulative president did a shabby job with Oga Rohr by submitting the Afcon list when you knew that you will sacked him. Instead of you Amaju to fired Oga Rohr after our last match, then you replace Oga Rohr with Amunike or Eguavoen so that they can start working right away but you destroyed everything now.

You have no idea of football and you are the NFF President? Who does that kę.

You are about to hire a foreign coach and you are expecting the gaffer to take Super Eagles to Cameroon and win the Afcon trophy. Does that make any sense at all Amaju?

If you don’t know then ask how it works. It will take some time for the new foriegn coach to adjust and adapt and to know the culture and knowledge of the African football.

The best we could do is to support our own. Let them be in charge of the Eagles at the Afcon and world cup qualifiers and if we qualify, get Amunike, Egbo Manu Garba, Finidi George, Peter Rufai, Enyeama, and Ikeme involved.

Give them moral support and let’s see what they can offer Super Eagles. If they fail to put up a strong team in one or two years then, you can hire a foreign coach.

You are deceiving yourself by looking for a world class coach because they are white, does that mean they have something up stairs?

Amunike, a holder of UEFA Pro Coaching License, Egbo have is and you can not be boasting of our own and you are looking somewhere to hire a foreign coach simply because you want to milk Nigeria dry. Oga Amaju Pinnick, your days are numbered. You will soon join your servant, Oga Rohr soon.

By now you Amaju should in the prison yard if truly there’s EFCC. What a country.

    God bless Nigeria!!!

When you conduct a psycho analysis of Amaju pinnick , the conclusion must be that he is a narcissist. Everything must be about him, he must be the one on the front pages of the newspaper . He must be the one taking pictures with the players, the man is so self centred that he admitted he was the one who instructed Rohr to include Ahmed musa to the 2018 wc. The desire to take all credit for the decision but blinded by the realisation of his intrusive administrative style. Most administrators are obscure and should be as a matter of fact but for pinnick it is not so.

Give him credit where it is due, he is a master political strategist as indicated by his meteoric rise in african football but an abysmal football administrator. The man has no clue!

The only reason he picked yobo was because yobo shared certain similarities with keshi. Both were AFCON winning captains, both were analysts at super sports and in his mind , he could repeat the trick. If you think this is far fetched, this is Amaju’s conclusion on eze when the latter visited him “you play like okocha, he was also captain of the SE”.

Just look at our age grade teams, when was the last time we recorded any success there recently? The NFF now has a culture of rewarding failure; don’t believe me? Aigbogun! Who put the “F” in failure when he handled the u20 team. Ladan Bosso is another who retains his job despite no meaningful success. Finidi who applied to coach one of the age grade teams was binned. This was someone who coached the feeder team at Real mallorca & director of international football at Real betis but pinnick felt the likes of Ladan Bosso is better. These erratic selection is not limited to the coaches, the MC (Master of Confusion) is at it again with player selection, exhuming ighalo from the grave yard of arabia league. Under his watch, deserving players are not given any chance whilst mediocre and less deserving players are repeatedly selected. Can anyone remember a time under past NFF leadership when player selection has been this conspicuously criminal? If Amaju thinks the players would not respect the coach except they are foreign then perhaps the same argument could be made for the NFF president, perhaps we need a foreign FA president who the players will respect.
The bottom line is they want a foreign coach to justify paying those outrageous salaries and in turn get their kick backs.
