Pinnick: Why NFF Decided To Sack Rohr

Pinnick: Why NFF Decided To Sack Rohr

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Amaju Pinnick has disclosed that the decision to sack Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr was to prevent a major disaster from happening to the senior national team.

He made this known in an interview with Channels Television on Monday, where he said that the NFF gave the German tactician all the necessary support to succeed with the team.

Recall that Rohr’s contract was terminated on Sunday by the NFF.

Augustine Eguavoen was immediately appointed to take charge of the Super Eagles on an interim basis.

The former Delta State Sports administrator also confirmed that the NFF was owing Rohr for some months, saying the lack of discipline among the players was one of the major setbacks in the team.

“He (Rohr) happens to be the longest-serving manager of the Super Eagles. We gave him all the support,” said Pinnick who was a guest on Sunrise Daily. “But we didn’t want to wait for a disaster to happen before parting ways. The last two games were very tough games for us.

“It wasn’t an individual decision; it was a collective decision by the entire executive committee. We were winning our games … there are a lot of things we took into cognisance. When you part ways, you don’t want to start ascribing blames; you just let it go and face the future with renewed hope and renewed zeal.”

“We did everything that we could, but one major factor was that discipline in the team is lost practically. In the dressing room, discipline in the team was at its lowest edge and once you remove discipline, that foundation in the team has cracked,” he said.

“Players now talk back at you, players believe that they are indispensable. A lot of factors that will now militate against the team. We are only owing about two matches of all the matches they played in both AFCON qualifiers and World Cup qualifiers.

“For Gernot Rohr, I know we paid him for about five months. We were owing him for a couple of months, then we cleared about five months.”

That’s okay Amaju Pinnick, it is all for the good of all. The good news is the new Technical Adviser, Augustine Eguavoen apart from being technically sound, is a disciplinarian to the core with proven records. Let’s hope for the best

    • All this na talk talk .all people will talk .the best things is to expose the team. Let them play friendly with 2 to 3 strong clubs in Europe by the time dey conceded 4 goals in each halve dey wil know their problem and wake up .overated players.

      • Salami Aminu 2 years ago

Exactly what I meant by let’s hope for the best.
I’m fully in support of having friendly games lined up for the SE. This would enable the new Technical Adviser and his team to make team selection. NFF, over to you.

      • It is true . Ajax vs super eagles
        Atlanta vs super eagles
        Bayern vs super eagles
Al ahly vs super eagles .

        • Styno 2 years ago

This is a shameful act by the NFF. You don’t pay your coaches and players but you expect the best from them. Rohr has been the best coach we’ve had for the last decade. He has qualified us for domestic and international competitions with ease and without the maths calculations, we’ve been used to in d past. I don’t see this team going anywhere without Rohr.

    • Just wait NFF will not pay Eguaveon his salary and he will start to
      Beg those players for money.

      Na so e Dey start

      No be Nigerian coaches

      • All dat disciplinary talk will disappear when beggi beggi start.

Egaveon that failed to qualify for 2006 WC when he was coach

        Make we see

  • Chima E Samuels 2 years ago

Have anyone noticed the shape of Pinnick’s head? No wonder he can’t think straight and with the composition of coaches he just gave us i can bet my last cash that this Man will make a bad pot of soup. Eguavoen failed with Eyimba and with all the stars he took to 2006 Afcon he came back with another Bronze medal that we are tired of winning. The latest was his failure to qualify for Olympic. So why make him technical director and since the team he is directing failed why then must he be handed as interim coach? And to make matters worst you mix him up with terrible assistants. Pinnick go for Amunike else you’ll not rest…..

    • Vincent Ituma 2 years ago

Firstly, Eguavoen is the Technical Adviser of SE and not Technical Director, pls correct it. Secondly, you continue to call out Amunike’s name unnecessarily. Ok, let’s even check his stats. As recent as 2019, Amunike managed to qualify Tanzania for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, but he resigned from training the team after losing all three games thereof, Tanzania is not Nigeria. Before then, Amunike became the assistant coach of Saudi Club Al Hazm and, after a short spell with Al-Hazim, returned to Nigeria.
May be you want to tell us he was the coach of Nigeria u17 that won Gold 2015, even at that, we are talking of the senior national team here. With all that, Amunike can’t be compared to nation’s cup coach and not even Eguavoen who won bronze in 2006. My brother, the Super Eagles need our support more than ever. Let’s thank Nff for this local content opportunity.

      • U17 is a youth tournament where there is no tactics that why Nigeria win.

Look at Egypt they sacked Hector Cuper former
        Laliga winning coach

And employed Carlos Quireoz former coach of Real Madrid and Alex Ferguson Assistant head coach

Na this ppl una go drag World Cup
Ticket with with arguable on in charge?

    • Festus 2 years ago

Eguavoen is the most capped local coach of SE of his peers. He won bronze at 2006 Afcon. So be careful if you are short of facts otherwise, you will be running people down unnecessarily.

    • Chima E Samuels 2 years ago

@Vincent he was appointed as Technical Director under Coach Rohr…
@John When you’re technically sound you’re technically sound regardless of the level you coached that is why we have promotion.
@Festus I vividly stated that he won Bronze that we have been winning infact check today record 8 times, and just so you know he went there with Star studded players.

It’s high time we develop a winning mentality as a nation and stop celebrating average stuffs over and over again. I am sure if he comes back with Bronze your kinds will be jubilating forgetting that Belmadi won Gold on his first attempt without excuses. Make we get vision o!!!

  • Baba Okemute 2 years ago

Please try and clear whatever arrears you owe G. Rohr before Fifa starts knocking. Meanwhile, since it was a collective decision by the entire executive committee, you have our support.
Mr. Amaju whose responsibility is scheduling of friendly matches? I need an answer through this medium. God bless Nigeria.

  • But Amaju you see the scape goat in the team.. ODE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You set this presidence when you whole heartedily came out to take blame for instilling an embattled Musa on the coach, it also came out that your phone call prevented rohr from making a tactical substitution against Argentina which involved the same Musa again. You also personally took credit fro imposing Ighalo on the team. Now you throw the coach under the bus by saying players feel indispensable. not to mention many others I mean Ekong attending trainings with Go pro and shooting videos is the height of it, Not to mention you doing the pep talks undermining the coach at any given opportunity. Pinnick Pinnick Pinnick!!! How many times have I called your name?, Why will they be respect amongst a team of European based stars being led by players they themselves know they can out perform at any given time. oh you guys think players are robots??. Let us just hope by these statements you have also seen the MAJOR part you played and you make dem sure only our best legs get selected ANUMANU!!!!!!!!!!!! NONSENSE!!!!!!!!!!!. You see Rohr I hope you learnt your lesson!!!. I man

    • I mean Pinnick comments are the height of disrespect to not only Nigeria but everybody and I bet those fools at the radio station were just opening teeth and laughing not asking meaningful questions like but how come you made the call on Ighalo? when Pinnick was talking rubbish there!!

  • Seriously he said to prevent a disaster which they have already created. What clown

  • Dr. Drey 2 years ago

Hahahahaha……I one minute…we gave him all the support he needed, in the next minute we are owing him salaries….LMAOooo

Players now talk back at you….LMAOooo…..??? Why wont they talk back at you when you are owing them since 2019 AFCON, yet you and your NFF eggheads never owe yourselves….LMAOooo…..especially these onyibo bred ones who dont give a damn about respecting useless elders as our own generation and most home-grown players were brought up to do.

Why wont players talk back at you when you shield them from punishment even when they are caught organizing sex parties…? Why wont they talk ack at you when you are always in their faces, disrespecting the office you occupy: you are the NFF president, PRO, Marketing manager, scout, Welfare officer, Psychologist……ahaaa…who sai…??? As popular as English, Brazilian or French football is, I’ve never heard the names of the presidents of their FAs. There is a reason why the moon, even though less powerful, is more revered than the sun.

You are only owing about two matches……LMAOooo….so the interview Leon Balogun granted on BBC (was it…?) was lies right…? Reports we have been receiving in the press too must be lies.

I watched on one of Ekong’s youtube videos that the SE team bus is not even air-conditioned….LMAoooo…..imagine. When you eventually provided 1 that was air conditioned it couldn’t contain the team, some had to stand as if the national team was Agege FC….LMAOoooo

Just make sure your consortium of jobbers give us the AFCON and World cup tickets…..because not all of us are failures who would rather “fail with our own” than succeed with whoever is capable. We wont tolerate excuses.

    Nobody remembers failures…!!!

  • You see what I have always said….. Rhor created that atmosphere in the team……He gave players shirt assurance…… letting some players know that they are untouchable.,….Closed the door of the national team to upcoming talented players…….Killed the competitive spirit in the team…..Players dictating who gets invited or not hence keeping our most inform players in Europe out of the team……The results of all these was what we where witnessing of recent when SE plays and it was definitely heading to a disaster……

  • Oyenuga Olufemi 2 years ago

Nawa ooo what kind of nonsense is this for God sake ? Is Eguavoen better than Rohr? already we have lost the AFCON before the begining of the competition i bet you Eguavoen is a disaster to happen if he there take the team to AFCON. I remember him as a coach with one of Nigeria clubs which he failed there, Pinick appointed him because he is from Edo state like him Amunike is far far better if we really want an interim.

  • RESPECT IS RECIPROCAL 2 years ago

I WATCHED SIMON GOAL FOR NANTES I SAID HOW COME THIS GUY PLAY BADLY FOR EAGLES SAME GOES FOR ARIBO AND I CONCLUDED THAT ROHR IS NOT HELPING THE TEAM AT ALL .APART FROM SENEGAL THAT THERE PLAYERS ARE PERFORMING EXCELLENTLY NO OTHER AFRICAN COUNTRIES HAS BETTER QUANTITY OF PLAYERS THAT NIGERIA HAS AT THE MOMENT YET ROHR CAN NOT MOULD THEM INTO A WINNING TEAM. I DO NOT MUCH ABOUT EQUAVON OTHER THAN THAT HE GETS ALONG WELL ALONG NFF BIG GUN, BUT I PRAY HE PROVES US WRONG BY INJECTING FRESHNESS AND TEAM PLAY IN THE TEAM.
I KNOW FOR SURE THAT SELECTION WILL BASED ON MERIT AND LIKELY THE END OF OYINBO DEFENSE IS NEAR. NO MORE AUTO SHIRT.

  • Mr Hush 2 years ago

No matter how we perceived Rohr; he did his part. My profound gratitude for the good times and also for the rocky times; we learn (or I hope so). Now his chapter, unfortunately, is closed. We move.

Pinnick and his goons acted in character by their recent coaching appointments. All Useless and unworthy.
Not that it’s not known; it simply shows how nonchalant and disorganised the NFF is. Inept to the highest volume.

Going forward with the Afcon et al; I don’t know how or what to feel; disappointed wouldn’t cover. But would only sit back and watch. I still believe in miracles. Or as they say; “the Naija spirit”; and I say that with a chulk in my throat.

  • ABDULRAZAK 2 years ago

Hehehehelhe. You owed the man many months salary and you gave him all the support needed! Haha Haha.

  • Fred Ebohi 2 years ago

The NFF did well to effect the change that was even difficult for the Minister of sports, Sunday Dare to do. Unless the new Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Augustine Eguavoen is going to effect a change, otherwise, camping should commence by the 28th of this month as already arranged by the outgoing T.A.
Some forumites have suggested that the NFF should make arrangements for friendly games. Though I’m not sure if that would be possible considering poor time frame right now, I would rather suggest that the players begin training as soon as they arrived the camp.

  • Oakfield 2 years ago

“For Gernot Rohr, I know we paid him for about five months. We were owing him for a couple of months, then we cleared about five months.” …. Lol…. Only God knows beyond what we know the number of months u owed him. Chei… U owe the players backlog of salaries and you expect them to prostrate before you abi? Shame. Are u being owed wages the way rohr was owed??? You are the main cause of the problem the team is having. U just exposed urself and your evil deeds.

  • Longest serving manager with no trophy.

I expect NFF to appoint Amunike to take Super Eagle to Nations cup not Eguavoen.

    • onwajunior 2 years ago

U know he only played in 2 tournaments right? Afcon and WC. So u wanted him to win them? Afcon, where we were missing for the previous 2 editions, and WC – practically impossible.

    • “longest serving manager with no trophy” do you people think at all before typing rubbish on the forum? How many competitions did SE participate in during the five years duration…no thanks to Covid19.

SE participated in two tournaments, Afcon and World cup. The team won bronze at afcon on first attempt and I hope you didn’t expect them to win the world cup, so why all the gibberish you are talking?

NFF claimed they gave Rohr all the support he needed yet you are owning him and the players salaries and bonuses, what kind of yeye support be dat.

You gave him all the support yet you imposed dundee utd of an assistant on him. I don’t blame Mr Amaju sha, I blame those channels presenters cos I bet they will be bias to ask him the right questions.

I pray Mr Amaju should get an invite to appear on Arise TV if Reuben Abati and that woke co presenter(forgotten his name) will not roast NFF and Amaju with that his coconut head.

Am waiting for Chief Odegbami’s epistle of shamelessness and I know our oga will not disappoint.

Thank you @Vincent Ituma in your response to China E.
The local content opportunity which has been availed our ex footballers to paddle the of the Super Eagles to successfully win Gold medal in Cameroon is the best thing the football federation has done to the country. But I think both the NFF and the SE coaching crew should move away from this change of barton to other areas such invitation of selected players to camp, training and friendlies if need be. Egu is already the Technical Director with assistances such as Yusuf, Yobo, Agu and others. Csn, let’s have a way forward.

    • M. Adams 2 years ago

      Error: Technical Adviser.

    • Chima E Samuels 2 years ago

I have come to realize a lot of your kinds don’t know anything about sports. It’s your type that will be asking who’s wearing the number 10 jersey or what happened to Tijani Babaginda that is why you didn’t know that Eguavoen was the technical director under Coach Rohr. You get luck say na internet be this you for don collect better knock for your Coconut head. Mumu who doesn’t know him and the Vincent are lagging behind current affairs before disgracing himself.

  • Amaju picnick is the most corrupted nff president i have ever since always talking and deceiving himself playing politics with nigeria football sacking rohr now though i am a little bit ok with it though it took pinnick very long time to do the right thing well appointing Eguavouen let’s see what the man will do at Afcon Stephen Keshi did it 2013 let give Eguavouen a benefit of doubt he might spring up surprises cus as for me i am tired of rohr tactics and coaching style.

  • GLORY 2 years ago

Really sad for Rohr. He trusted wrongly. They bullied n betrayed him. He was like a loner in the midst of bulldogs chasing him to n fro. THE DAY I SAW SHEHU PAT ROHR ON HIS SHOULDER, WHILES ABOUT TO COME IN, I KNEW EVERYTHING IN THAT DRESING ROOM HAD GONE SOUTH.

THEY HAVE SET THE BALL ROLLING TO GET ANOTHER LESSER ROHR THAT THEY GONNA SACK AGAIN TO BRING IN AN INTERIM LOCAL COACH AND GO ON TO GET ANOTHER LESSER ROHR. JUST GOING ABOUT IN CIRCLES.

THE ENTIRE NFF GROUP MUST BE CALLED TO ATLEAST ANSWER SOME THOSE WEIGHTED QUESTIONS THROWN FORWARD BY @ UGO AND @ DR DREY. SOMETIMES I JUST WISHED I NEVER HAD THIS INTEREST IN FOOTBALL SIMPLY BECAUSE OF THESE CLOGGED BRAINS, MANAGING OUR SPORTS, FOOTBALL IN PARTICULAR.

ROHR JUST REFUSED TO LISTEN TO FANS TO HIS OWN HURT. I SAW ALL OF THESE COMING WITH THAT MUSA, SALISU AND IGHALO ISSUES. THE THREE TRAPS THEY USED AGAINST HIM. THESE PEOPLE ARE SATANS. I PERSONALLY REMAIN GRATEFUL TO GERNOT ROHR FOR HIS MEASURED CONTRIBUTION TO BUILDING OUR SE. LETS SEE WHAT THESE LOTS WILL COME UP WITH. BUT WINNING AFCON WILL NEVER BE USED AS YARDSTICK, RATHER CONTINOUS PROGRESS INTO THE FUTURE. WE ALL ARE PRETTY MUCH AWARE OF HOW KESHI WON 2013AFCON AND ALMOST IMMEDIATELY THE TEAM JUST STARTED CRUMBLING.

CEREZO ISN’T REALLY A BAD MANAGER BUT HE DOESN’T SEEM TO BE THE BEST AMONGST OUR LOCAL COACHES. AN NFF THAT WANT THE BEST FOR SE, SHOULD HAVE GONE WITH THE FINIDI OR AMUNIKE OR EGBE OPTION. WORST STILL, LEAVING SALISU THERE TO PAIR AIGBOGUN IN THE ATTACK WITH REGARDS TO BRIBERY. THESE GUYS ARE A BOUNTY OF JOKE JUST TO SAY THE LEAST.

  • Detruth 2 years ago

What has Eguavouen accomplished as a coach?

2006 bronze medal is the dumbest reason anyone can point to as to why he’s a good choice. 2006 till this present time is 15 years, so the question is, What has he done lately?

At the end of the tournament, the thieves in the glasshouse will wish they hadn’t made that devastating and disastrous appointment.

Pinnick created the problems but wants to blame the coach for losing control of the dressing room. Nigeria Football Federation is in desperate need of a reform and total transformation, clueless individuals like pinnick and his gang whom are hell bent on looting the organization’s little funds and running it to the ground have no business being there.

  • Detruth 2 years ago

With this appointment, we are in for a rough ride. Buckle up your sit belts fellas, it’s about to get really bumpy.

  • Rohr lost focus. His most devoted defenders should admit that. He dug his own grave. He should enjoy it.

Now, we have no option but to support the new crew. We can’t say they should win afcon and qualify because rohe was never going to win it with rigidity and cluelessness.

I always believe when a nigerian coach makes the best selection, he has done about 50% of the job because of the abundant talents we have.

This has been working for rohr at the initial stage. He was picking on merit.

I expect this crew to do everything to do the right thing at this early stage. That may just work for us at afcon.

But I can’t trust this crew for periods above 6 to 12 months. They will begin to collect bribe. It’s like a curse for Nigerian coaches.

  • This is a shameful act by the NFF. You don’t pay your coaches and players but you expect the best from them. Rohr has been the best coach we’ve had for the last decade. He has qualified us for domestic and international competitions with ease and without the maths calculations, we’ve been used to in d past. I don’t see this team going anywhere without Rohr.

  • Yeye continue to deceive yourself.lets see where your abundant of talents will take you to. Have been following your write up and now that your nightmare is gone better to move on and stop lamenting bro, least get behind your world class consortium of coaches assembled by our world best FA thanks

@ oga Amaju Pinnick, how will the players respect Rohr when you the NFF chairman is clubbing and dinning with the players all over the places

  • Gritty 2 years ago

I smell ethnic bigotry in all of this NFF cosmetic arrangement. Pls guys watch out for yourself.

I will advise our true football legends and stars to be very careful not to be mocked by this perverted charade or better steer clear.
Who God has blessed, no man can curse! Shalom!

Who is fooling who? Amaju…..Amaju….Amaju. How many times did I call you? If am not mistaken three times abi? OK good.

Excuse me Mr. Oakfield, go to section 419 of my constitution and start reading section 419a for Amaju. Be quick now.

Read. OK say let me read sir. Good.

Poor leaders will only focus on the ideas that back up their own perspective. They will disregard differing opinions and will not engage when the person they disagree with is speaking. They will avoid having open discussions with those around them and will instead revert to their own opinion when making all decisions.

Thank you Mr. Oakfield. You are welcome sir omo9ja.

Amaju, your days are numbered. Sooner or later, Nigerians will ask you to vacate your position.

You selected your own servants to take the advantage of Nigeria through the Super Eagles and watch out for the return of Nigerians.

If you don’t know, Salisu Yusuf name is a taboo among the coaches. Salisu Yusuf should be removed from his new role and if you don’t do it Amaju, the present of Mr. Salisu in Cameroon will tarnish Nigeria image in Cameroon.

Also, Mr. Aigbogun is not up to the task therefore, he’s not good at all to be among the coaches while Agu is untouchable when we have better replacements for Mr. Agu?

You have started a battle that you can never win. When the time comes, Nigerians we send you parking like the way you did to Oga Rohr.

Out of the three coaches you selected for Nigeria, I will peak Eguavoen because of is smartness, confidence, professionalism, discipline, strategy to win game, team management and he doesn’t take nonsense from anybody.

No dull moment, Eguavoen’s team will play good football/total football that Nigerians has been looking for over the past five years.

However, Nigeria do not have a good government. If indeed the country have one, EFCC should have arrested you Amaju/NFF for signing a doubius contract with Oga Rohr since yesterday but Nigeria have no government.

    Good luck to Oga Rohr.

Way forward is to replace Amaju now. Kudos to us all Nigerians. The way we did during Oga Rohr’s time, if we can do that to remove bad politicians and rulers this country, then we will have a better Nigeria. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!

  • Tunnie 2 years ago

    Countries lower to
Is in Africa pays their coaches on a regular basis . They get sponsors that offsets coaches salaries how come the so called giants of Africa is always finding it hard to pay both coaches and players. Amaju should be ashamed for the rubbish he said on Tv. No reasonable coach will ever want to work in such an unprofessional environment like that of the NFF. Now to Eguavoen I laugh and laugh again nothing good will come out of his tenure as interim coach of the team I can place a bet on it . Rohr isn’t good enough but the replacement is worse cos I don’t see what has changed from a man who handles the team twice and failed woefully. The whole back room staffs all corrupt maybe except for yobo . We never learn in this country we just never learn . #pinnickmustresign
