Play Real Football And Stop Showboating –Savage Blasts Antony

Manchester United legend, Robbie Savage has lambasted Antony for showboating when the team needed the three points in Thursday Europa League win over Sheriff Tiraspol.



Recall that the Brazil international appeared to be entertaining the crowd when the Red Devils needed three points to keep their hopes of sealing top spot alive.

He started doing tricks on the pitch with the scores tied at 0-0 and was withdrawn at half-time by manager Erik ten Hag, who might have opted to use a more serious minded player.



Savage was surprised at what he saw given the state of the game at the time and lambasted the former Ajax star, calling him ‘embarrassing’ .




“Well that for me is ridiculous. Because he’s done that and then he puts the ball out of play. Quite embarrassing actually, doing that with nobody near him,” Savage told BT Sport.



“If I were the manager, I would not be happy. Nobody near him, and he puts the ball out of play. Embarrassing.”

 

International career

 

On 15 May 2019, he was named in the Brazil under-23 squad for the 2019 Toulon Tournament, helping his team win the competition, scoring two goals, including one in the final against Japan.

 

On 17 June 2021, Antony was named in the Brazil under-23 squad for the 2020 Summer Olympics. He started in all of Brazil’s six games at the tournament. In the final against Spain, he assisted Malcom‘s winning goal in extra-time as Brazil won the title. He scored six goals in 22 games for the under-23 team.

 

Senior

 

He made his debut for the Brazil national football team on 7 October 2021 in a World Cup qualifier against Venezuela. He came on as a substitute in 77th minute and scored a goal in added time to establish the final score of 3–1 for Brazil.
