Premier League: Arsenal Claim First League Win Vs Liverpool In Five Years

Arsenal claimed a first Premier League win against Liverpool in five years after coming from a goal down to win 2-1 in Wednesday’s Premier League game at the Emirates.

The last time Arsenal recorded a win against the newly crowned Premier League champions was in April 2015 in a 4-1 home win.

Two first half mistakes from Virgil van Dijk and Alisson were punished by Alexandre Lacazette and Reiss Nelson which cancelled out Sadio Mane’s early opener.

Liverpool’s defeat to Arsenal means that Jürgen Klopp’s side can no longer earn 100 plus points in the Premier League this season.

Also, this is the first time Jurgen Klopp has suffered defeat against Arsenal in the Premier League (five wins, three draws, one defeat).

The win saw Arsenal occupy ninth position on 53 points, three points from sixth which is the Europa League qualification spot and six points adrift of fourth position which will secure Champions League football next season.

Liverpool broke the deadlock on 20 minutes through Mane who finished off Andy Robertson’s cross into the box.

Arsenal equalised in the 32nd minute thanks to a Virgil van Dijk’s uncharacteristic mistake at the back which Lacazette pounced on rounded Alisson before slotting into the net.

And with one minute left in the first half another mistake by Alisson saw Nelson put Arsenal ahead from Lacazette’s cross.
