Premier League: Awoniyi Scores, Aina Booked As Nottingham Forest Fall To Arsenal

Taiwo Awoniyi opened his goal account for the season in Nottingham Forest’s 2-1 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Awoniyi was a major doubt for the game after recently returning to training but was named among the substitutes.

Eddie Nketiah gave Arsenal the game lead on 26 minutes after good work from Gabriel Martinelli.

Bukayo Saka doubled the advantage with a superb shot from outside the box six minutes later.

Awoniyi took the place of Danillo Oliviera 19 minutes from time.

The Nigeria international reduced the deficit for the visitors in the 82nd minute.

The 26-year-old slotted home from close range after he was teed up by fellow substitute Anthony Elanga.

His international teammate, Ola Aina started the game and was replaced by Neco Williams 18 minutes from time.

Aina was booked in the 28th minute.

The other Nigerian at the club, Emmanuel Dennis was not included in the matchday squad.

WHy bench this guy. Don’t understand this forest coach at all.

    • Sunny 9 months ago

He was injured for most of preseason. He was even a doubt until close to the game.

Congratulations to you Awo baba neee. Now you are beginning to make us proud. More to come. No relaxing. 30 goals this season is very achievable. May OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST have mercy on you and all deserving SE players to keep every form of injuries far far away from you all just like TWO PARALLEL LINES THAT NEVER MEET.

Thumbs up brotherman. This is Awoniyi’s season. He is far better than Erling Haaland. No other striker will lace his boots this season.
Heaven bless Awoniyi and all deserving Super Eagles players.

Hahaha… Brodaman Abo, welcome back. Na your eyes be this? Lolzz. Anyway make you suffry make that Haaland comparison oo. Na sheer wickedness to engage a dog with a lion in a cage fight seemly because we hear say dem dey call the dog LION LION.

@Broda Glory, you disappoint me.. You of all people should know better than underestimate Nigerian players. What is special about Halaand? If Awoniyi was playing for Man City with World Class support, he will score more goals.
Is Halaand Osihmen? Is Halaand Gift Orban? Is Halaand Chuba Akpom? Even Josh Maja will do pull up trees this season. Everywhere you look, Naija dey there.
Heaven bless all deserving Super Eagles strikers.

Nigerians will do anything to play in the premier league. Even if they are ridiculed. To play in a bottom half team or near relegated team. This guy was a record signing for forest last season and top scorer. Only to be benched regularly for lightskin and mixed/biracial players who aint good like gibbs white and brendan johnson. These Jamaicans/Welsh and Jamaican and English players. This is sad o

Everything is not race. The young is not fully fit to play 90 mins. So the coach bring him on in the second half.

Top marks Sisterwoman @Mercy. You are one of the few people who make me come here to comment. You’ve said it all.

Well composed performance from Aina. Played left back position and showed up against Saka and Arsenal attackers. Awoniyi goal is a masterclass, turned defence to attack, won the ball from his box, found elanga and ran the race of his life for a return pass to score..
2 games 2 goals against Arsenal.

  • what a counter attacking run from Awoniyi, i couldnt believe his pace in starting and finishing the move and i thought he wasnt a pacy player. if he stays injury free and fit, with his power, pace and finishing, i see him scoring close to if not more than 20 goals at the end of the season. if iheanacho eventually joins notingham then i see him (awoniyi) scoring more goals and nottingham staying among the top 10 clubs in the league.

    • There is nothing like relegation team anymore…..Every team who fails to meet up with the standard will go down…..last season all the relegation candidates stay up and new teams took their place and went down…..super Eagles players should compete in top leagues and stop using the search for bigger teams as an excuse to hide in mushroom leagues….. Enough of Turkey Cyprus Greece and division 2 players dominating our national team…..We must restore the standard and Glory of SE…..well done Awoniyi The world is recognising your ability now.

  • @ Drey, @Akp, @folarin While our opponent South Africa have already concluded four friendly matches beginning with the match against Namibia on the 9th September,2023 and ending with the match against Ivory coast on 19th September,2023, our lazy, incompetent and corrupt NFF with Olajire as spoke man are still struggling with one friendly match which is yet to be concluded. If we fail to qualify which should know whom to blame. Check bsn sport.com.ng of today 13th August 2023.
