President Federation Cup: Rivers Angels’ Coach Ogbonda Thrilled To End ‘Trophyless Run’

Rivers Angels head coach, Whyte Ogbonda was relieved to win his first trophy following the club’s victory over Naija Ratels in the final of the President Federation Cup on Saturday.

The Port Harcourt club defeated Naija Ratels 1-0 in a keenly contested final at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.

Blessing Okpe’s first half strike from the penalty spot gave Rivers Angels victory in the game.

Ogbonda lost twice in the final of the competition during his stint with Ibom Angels in 2017 and 2018.

“The match wasn’t an easy one because I wasn’t expecting an easy game from Naija Ratels,” Ogbonda said.

“I’ve joined a team like Rivers Angels where I have experienced and young players capable of winning trophies. There was pressure on me to win, and I am happy today to have broken the jinx as a trophyless coach.

“The team was well-motivated because after losing the NWFL, we told them they needed to boost their market value and bargaining power by ending the season with a trophy. That spurred them to work hard and achieve the result today.”
