Hennessey Recieves No Punishment For Over Controversial Pose

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey will face no punishment for an alleged Nazi salute made in a social media post by Max Meyer.

The 32-year-old had denied the charge, saying any resemblance to the Nazi gesture in the picture was “absolutely coincidental”. The Football Association had alleged the action breached its rules relating to abusive, insulting or improper conduct and bringing the game into disrepute, but the charge was found to be not proven by an independent regulatory commission.

The photo, posted on Instagram by German team-mate Meyer after the Eagles’ FA Cup win over Grimsby Town in January, immediately drew criticism from supporters.

Hennessey appeared to have his left hand covering his mouth with his right arm in the air in what could have been interpreted as a saluting motion.

The Wales international has previously said he “waved and shouted at the person taking the picture to get on with it” and “put my hand over my mouth to make the sound carry”.
