Queiroz: Egypt Not A One Man Team

Egypt head coach Carlos Queiroz says the team is not all about Mohamed Salah and praised his players for their remarkable efforts in the 2-1 win against Morocco on Sunday.

The Pharaohs started their campaign at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations on a disappointing note losing 1-0 to Nigeria, but have now progressed into the last four of the competition.

Queiroz’s side rallied back from a goal down to beat the Atlas Lions in a thrilling quater-final contest at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium.

Salah scored the equaliser for the seven-time champions and later set up Mahmoud Trezeguet for the winning goal in extra time.

“I think the best compliment I can give the players is to thank them, they want to continue in the tournament and they want to reach the final,” Queiroz said after the game.

“I have great players. We deserved to win today because we dominated the game after going behind.

“We want to represent Egypt better in the next match after beating a great team like Morocco, but now we are focusing on Cameroon.

“We are not a one-man team and I reject this description because the team plays collectively and everyone wants to win. We play together, we suffer together, we create opportunities together, and score together.

“Today Salah was great, but this is what is expected of the best player in the world, but there is teamwork, and everyone is working for one goal, whether on or off the pitch, and this is what develops performance.

“This is what I expect from this team, despite all the injuries we suffer from. There are many obstacles, but we have backup players with who we can win the title with.”
