Movistar’s Nairo Quintana admits leadership opportunities are what he will be looking for when choosing his team for next year. The Colombian has fallen victim to the talent at the Spanish outfit, often having to work alongside team-mates due to the presence of Mikel Landa, Alejandro Valverde and Richard Carapaz.
A policy of picking two, sometimes three leaders for grand tours, has often cost Quintana and there appears to be a discord in the camp. Stage 14 of July’s Tour de France even saw Movistar riding the 29-year-old off the back of the peloton when trying to set up Landa.

Rumours abound that he will move on ahead of the 2020 season and ‘El Condor de los Andes’ is claimed to have signed a three-year deal with French Pro Continental team Arkea-Samsic. The chance to have the team’s full focus at grand tours is clearly something that interests the Combita-born star as he looks to add to his 2014 Giro d’Italia title and 2016 Vuelta a Espana crown.
He told BLU Radio: “That’s the idea – to be able to find a team where I feel at home, where I’m happy, and where they can support me 100 per cent… where I feel myself and where I can shine as bright or even brighter than ever.”
